Cask conditioned handpump Wig & Pen Northampton 23/01/14. A dark ruby coloured beer with an off-white head and lace. Fruity and chocolatey. Lovely Wintery flavours. Hints of spice. A nice body and an easy drinker. Dusty chocolate. Good stuff.

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2013 Bloody fantastic!! Rich, complex flavours, very full bodied with deep plum fruityness hidden below barley wine richness, finishes with bitter citrus hops, and the tiniest hint of chocolate.

Bottle from the Lee Off Licence. Dark brown pour with a beige head. Aromas of figs, cinnamon, vanilla and a little coffee. Very Christmassy nose. Sweet malt flavours with sultanas, chocolate and raisin. Bitter-malt finish. Rich, warming stuff.

(cask@The Lord Northbrook, SE London) Pours dark brown in colour with a medium off white head and good lacing. Aroma is malty caramel. Taste nice blend of tastes of malt caramel, spicy fruit and hops. Good seasonal ale I will make the most of from one of my locals before it disappears.

(Bottled) As Spring is not far away its cool to say goodbye to Winter with some ’winter warmer’ ...though i’m the type of beer enthusiast who’d drink this in summer . Nose is fruity , hopPy , chocolaty and with liqorice . Deep ruby, nice creamy foam.
in the mouth its sticky , rich and probing the palate. dried fruit is there , then chocolate notes ,rather nutty , spicy and burnt in a complex showcasing of textures . Syrupy malt aspects are united with background hops... Interesting.

Cask-conditioned at the Kent Beeriodical, the Seven Stars Bristol February 2012. Dark brown in colour with a hit of red and decent, off-white head. Sweet, red berry fruit and caramel character, with some plain chocolate and a touch of hop in the finish. Good winter beer.

Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival. Loads of beers shared with ChrisO and Harrisoni - Cheers! Oddly streaky brown in appearance! Light dy palate. Mildly spiced. Cinnamon? A little mint in there as well. Mild dark malt as well. Curious beer! Not bad though.

Cask (gravity dispense). Beer #24 at Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival on 3 February 2011. Thanks to whoever it was behind the bar that let us have a taste despite the fact that it was supposedly "not ready" (actually in perfectly decent condition - I suspect holding back was the real reason). Dark and lively. Lots of hops. Good depth of flavour. Drifting towards a black IPA in style. Very good.
