Tried it both as draught at DBF2005 (this rating) and bottled (almost just as good). Words really don’t do any justice to this divine fluid. Silence is golden.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Corked and caged - pours a two finger cream head that leaves a good lace. Cloudy amber color. Malty/alcohol nose. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Flavor is honey, caramel and some alcohol. Can’t detect the ginger. Warming. $15.50 for a 750ml bottle from Tully’s Beer & Wine Wells, Me.
Decent braggot (not a mead), the ratings seem unusually low.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sampled on 4/30/2010. This mead pours a medium brown color from a very short cork and caged 750ml bottle. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is malt, honey, spices, ginger and sweet.
A medium bodied mead. The malts are fruity, sweet and honey. Nice carbonation. Very sweet, yet it is balanced perfectly from the ginger and other spies. There is a whole lot of sweetness that gets balanced out from the ginger. Nice balance of honey, ginger and alcohol. Very pleasant sipping beer. This one was way better than I expected. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Ratebeer chat edition. Bottle from New Beer. $13 ponied up as the result of an exhausted list of options.
Rounded pint glass. Constantly frothy. Clear ruby-hued/brown brew. Weak, oatmeal froth. Sticky, archipelago-like lace. Second pour coats like plaster.
Smells like alfalfa? Lime & candied/soapy ginger. Citric acid cuts down the middle. Oxidation. Honeyed Black tea accent. Somewhat fumy.
Taste is like a mix of sweet tea & malta. Sugar, coffee-ish/oxidized malt. Sticky spilt beer & cola. Plum-ish? Light, soft ginger. Some citrus burn. Lots of caramel, but lots of micro-beaded carbonation to cut it. Eventual woody, crystalline finish. Sweet of course, but cold enough & it’s tolerable. Moderate burn. Well rounded, without getting ugly, imo.
Decent carbonation, not too thick for the style, but increasingly sticky as it warms.
Tolerable braggots are hard to find. This one was way better then just that.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
750 ml bottle labeled Old Danish Braggot? Malty sweet molasses and rich honey. Pours a rich amber with deep reddish hues and thin white head. I definitely taste the vienna and munich malts up front, very rich malty flavors, then follows the ginger, spicy, with notes of black pepper. It finishes with terrific honey flavors, but not overly sweet. What a great braggot not sure why all the ratings are so low!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a clear copper with a thin white head. Rich aromas of honey, bread, grass, herbs. Taste is primarily medium sweet mead with herbal/floral character and finishes very spicy. Medium body with lively harsh carbonation. Good but a bit too expensive for what you get.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Skyview’s January 10, 2009 tasting. Lots of spice in the aroma and flavor. Sweet with honey. Opaque brown color. Spices in the flavor are very much those associated with Christmas, cinnamon, some ginger. I liked this more than most it seems.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Thanks to Redlight for the taste of Old Danish Braggot. Golden copper color. Smells of honey and malts. Taste is full of cinnamon, allspice and other spices with a decent peppery finish. I am with Redlight on this one. Either we had a different beer or the ratings are off. This was good.

Cloudy brown with a small white head. Aroma of honey and spice ... notes of ginger and white pepper. Rich, dark taste: potent alcohol with earthy, honeyed malt. Sweet. Delicious.

Pours light brown color with off white head. Aromas of honey, malt and ginger. Sweet fruity flavor with honey and ginger. Medium body with average carbonation. This one was better than I was expecting.
