3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 ROGUE (1566) - Newark, Delaware, USA - FEB 26, 2013
On tap at The Grey Lodge. Pours a black color with a dark tan head that falls to a cap with decent retention and leaves spotty lace. Aroma has spicy and herbal hops up front with a burst of grassy hops, along with a light burnt aroma and fresh bread. Taste is earthy and spicy hops with notes of peppercorn and fresh grass are up front. Clean malt profile with some burnt and molasses notes and a touch of coffee. Light dark fruitiness also. Medium bodied with a modest amount of carbonation and dry finish.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 kramer (3873) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 23, 2012
Sixtel, at home. Pours a dark brown body with a one finger foamy light brown head that left some light lacing. The nose is bright with juicy citrusy hops over a Porter like malt base with coffee, light roast, chocolate, and a bit of dark wheat. The flavor walks the line really well between Porter and IPA. At various points I think it favors each of the two styles. It pleases both the ’Stoutie’ in me and the hophead. The coffee and dark chocolate linger nicely with a bit of resiny piney hops. Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. I really like this beer, one of my most favorite beers from Old Forge to date. Liked it so much I bought a sixtel of it after I had a few pints at the brewpub.

Draft at brewpub. Pours black with an inch of khaki foam that doesn’t leave much foam. A bit of malt on the nose. More malt on the tongue with a fairly prominent pine flavor and corresponding bitterness on the finish. Solid but not my favorite style.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jercraigs (6473) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 30, 2012
2012-08-18. Black body with a small tan head. 3+ Lightly roasty character throughout, fruity, bitter, muted sweet malt middle, dry bitter roasty finish. 7+ Dry roasty malt in the aroma. 7+ Medium bodied palate. 3+ Simple solid stout, with decent amount of bitterness but I attributed it more to roast malt than hops... not nearly enough hops to call this a black IPA in my opinion. On tap, Old Forge brewpub

Tap at Old Forge with the RB crew for Campdown Brewdown sojourn. Pours a clear deep ruby with mahogany highlights. Weaker head. Nose is rich dark chocolate. Savory. Taste is sharp, denser, richer with big soil/dirt. Watery palate. Bitter and heavy nut skin tannins in the finish. Oversteeped grain character common to all of the beers on tap.
