COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Unruly Rye is an American Pale Ale/IPA with rye malt accounting for 23% of the grist. It’s full-bodied, almost brown in color, with a good balance between malt and hops, and a dry finish. The rye offers a characteristic flavor while complementing the hop bitterness. It is dry hopped with 2 lbs. of Nugget in the fermenter to enhance the hop aroma.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazy brown orange with a thin white head. Aroma of rye, earthy hops, hop oils. Flavor of citrus, earthy hops, hop oils, grassy hops, spicy rye. Very hoppy, tasty rye IPA. Very quenching and drinkable. 8/4/8/4/14 (3.8/5)

Sampled on draft this beer poured a caramel-brown color with a medium sized beige head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was bread, pretzel, pepper and faint fruity hops. The flavor was woody, nutty and bready with light notes of pepper, pine, citrus and a bit of an herbal undertone. Long bread, nut, pine and fruity hop finish. Medium body. Ok.

Tap, brewpub. Pours a slightly murky and hazy brown body with a small frothy off-white head that faded to a thin film. The nose is mostly dominated by the rye, but it’s pretty subdued overall, fairly yeasty, a little light hoppiness, some earthiness. The flavor is pretty well balanced between the hops and malt, slightly earthy and bready with some light spiciness. Finishes with a mix of yeastiness and light citrusy hops. Medium bodied with a fairly thick texture due to the fairly prominent presence of the yeast. Pretty decent and drinkable beer, but I can’t help but think it might be a bit brighter and cleaner if the yeast level were toned down.
