Commercial Description:
Irish ales are dark and rich in colour but are smooth and developed as an every day beer. A complex blend of imported hops and roasted barley give this ale a light aroma and bittersweet finish

I tried this beer on March 18, 2008 after purchasing from my one of local LCBO outlets. The beer poured a beautiful translucent dark red colour with a very thin white head that dissipates quite quickly. The aroma was roasted malt, and some nutty hints. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied, with high carbonation. The flavour was all over the place, there was roasted malt, some soapy sourness, and a little hint of bitterness.

Bottle - 650ml. Pours a dark copper body with average carbonation and a fading off-white creamy head. Fair malty aroma with bready and nutty hints. However, taste is slightly misbalanced. It carries toasted bread and roasted nuts notes and ends with a short bitter/sour finish. Boring, but not undrinkable.

Dark amber color, with almost no head, toasted, biscuity malt nose, with some cookie dough notes, with some hints of chocolate, toffee and chestnut, with some fruity accents of plum and date in the aroma follows through on medium-bodied palate with a a toasty, biscuity, grainy malt character, a fruity note of prunes and raisins, with some toffeeish and nutty accents, with a subtle chocolatey flavor, a faint flowery hop grassiness, leading towards a malty, chocolatey, lingering hop bitterness finish.

Pours a clear brownish amber with no head. Pungent aroma of vaguely sweet mold. Tastes somewhat artificial - lots of hops but skunky, like a trashy bottled Euro-lager. Ugh. Flat & thin. I am SO glad I didn’t invite my father to share this with me. Ah well, try everything once.
