Commercial Description:
Irish ales are dark and rich in colour but are smooth and developed as an every day beer. A complex blend of imported hops and roasted barley give this ale a light aroma and bittersweet finish

Bottle. Impenetrable dark brown. Nice nose of chocolate malt, brown sugar and caramel. Appealing, rich body with good length and an enjoyable gritty texture. Well-balanced flavour profile features rich malt, molasses middle and refreshing bitter finish. A good brew, especially for a Trafalgar.

bottled. Poured dark reddish-brown with tan head. Roasted, nutty aroma. Medium mouthfeel.. Smokey, hint of coffee and bitter-sweet chocolate. Dry finish with a little alcohol aftertaste.

341 ml bottle from the OCB mixed pack - pours a deep copper red with a good two-finger tan head that lasts for awhile and leaves some fairly nice lacing. Aroma nicely grainy, and a chalky/milk chocolatey essence is present as well. Flavour fairly non-descript, but well-balanced. more cocoa shows up in the medium bitter finish. Not remarkable, but better than most Trafalgar beers I’ve had. The fact that it’s not infected is a small victory in and of itself.

Dark brownish pour. Negligible head. Forgot to try this in a clear glass, so Appearance is hard to judge. Dark is right, so up a few points, definately filtered, so down a few, nearly no head, so down a few more. Sorry if I rate this harshly but Tupperware is a harsh mistress to the summer rate. Dark roasted malts, caramel and tofffe in the sent. Regretfully more water in the taste then anything else. Lots of nuts there, some malts, a hint of that caramel from the scent but not much else. A very strong aftertaste, that lingers. Here’s where all the flavour comes out, in the aftertaste. There’s coffee, malts, smoked herbs, a bit of sour citrus, and lots of almost wonderfult things. Almost wonderful because the belong in the flavour and taste and not the aftertaste. Instead you are left with an overpowering confusing cacophany at the end, that ruins a rather pleasant taste that could have been something more.

Bottle 341 ml
Appearance: clear dark amber brown with lighter slightly tanned top.
Nose: amber and brown malts , slightly vinous feel. Not bad.7-
Flavor/Palate : decent front with roasted and caramel malts ,thinner carbonated follow up. Slightly sticky molasses like ending. Faint hint of dryness on top. Bit empty especially with finishing yet with solid character.

This may well be the best offering from this unfortunate brewery, though that’s not saying a lot. Some buttery malts and a bit of fresh hops. No brewing flaws in mine, but maybe the bottle was very new. Still, thin mouthfeel, as this brewery insists on for some reason.

Enjoyable enough Irish red, which doesn’t say much. Caramel and strawberries in the nose. Low hops. Smooth and malty. Decent for what it is.

[312-20070510] Bottle. Some citrus hops aroma. Hazy, brown red body with lots of small bubbles and a big foamy off-white head. Boozy flavour with some sweet fruit. Medium-full body. Not unpleasant. (6/3/6/3/11) 2.9

[2054B-20090329] 341mL bottle. Smoky toasted malt aroma. Clear, dark brown red body with a long-lasting foamy light tan head. More smoky toasted grains flavour. Medium body. Average. (5/3/6/3/12) 2.9
