Our Imperial IPA is bigger and more balanced than its little brother, Ruud Awakening IPA, with a stronger malt presence and increased hopping rate. Mild caramel malt character and plenty of Pacific Northwest hops. The Imperial IPA is part of our Brewer’s Reserve Series.

Bomber. Pours a clear copper color with a large white head. A light nose of tangerine and lemon. Smooth rich, resin some lemon and oranges, low bitterness. Very smooth and nice.

21-Jul-13 (22-oz bottle: Free sample bottle for stewarding the 2012 World Beer Cup in San Diego, CA)
This beer pours a very hazy, orange body with almost an inch of light-tan head that settles to a wide ring and thin sheet, leaving ringed and patchy lacing on the glass. The highly aromatic nose is a nice balance of piney, orange-citrusy, and tea-like hops and medium-sweet, caramely malt. Similar balance and flavors on the palate, with the malt setting a fairly sweet and very caramely base while the hops have flavors of sweet tea, pine, and sweet, green, leafy herbs, with lingering, moderate bitterness. The beer is full bodied, medium in carbonation, and bordering on being cloying, but that aspect is saved by the lingering bitterness. Overall, though, this is a bit too sweet, even for an Imperial IPA. It’s enjoyable, but because of the sweetness, there’s no way I could drink the entire bomber.

bottle. Amber with two finger head. Big piney hops and medium level of malt. Good imperial IPA, but not anything particularly special.

22oz bomber. Pours a deep copper color with two fingers of white head. Nice aroma of citrus hops, and some biscuit malt. Taste follows nose with citrus and pine up front, a nice malty backbone, and a long bitter finish.

Was pleasantly surprised. Brewed with honey? Fresh juicy fruit back bone. Really enjoyed it

Nice old school West Coast (D)IPA. Strong hop aroma with deep copper pour. Good mouthfeel, but the name of the game here is hops. Strong grapefruit taste, with perhaps some pine -- and bitterness bitterness bitterness! This is a hophead's delight of a beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The Imperial by Old School House is a really good beer. I have found that the taste does change throughout the year which is expected but when its good its really good. This beer is best when you drink it in Winthrop. For a 9%er it is really well balance. It does lean toward your Washington style Imperials with its earthy finish.

Bottle. Pours dark orange with a short head. Decent retetion and lace. Aroma of oranges, malt and earthy hops. Light sweet, medium bittter flavor. Medium-plus body, soft carbonation, slick texture and an astringent, bitter finish.

Really fruity nose and well hidden alcohol, this skews toward some tropical and citrus with a little pine back. Clean and big, it goes to the head.
