3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 GT2 (5658) - Riverslime, California, USA - JAN 9, 2013
651mL black wax. Inky pour generates a larger, mocha head. Dense with good retention. Webby lacing. Nose starts with green olive and salt, moving to spiced vanilla chai latte. Some fumey alcohol and still a lot of green olive. Taste is very dry, ashy, bitter, a bit gritty without any thick palate to balance. Overall acrid and burnt tasting with some severe cardboard and sawdust in the finish.

650ml bomber pours a deep black color with a 2 finger creamy light brown head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is chocolate and roasted grains with hints of dark fruits. Taste is a chocolate malty and dark fruit sweetness with some roasted grain bitterness. Nicely balanced with a full body and moderate carbonation leaving the palate satisfied. Great stout.

On the first day of Christmas, the beer gods brought to me... a disappointing stout. Pours a black color with soapy caramel colored head. Aroma of caramel, licorice, and roast. Sweet roasty taste with a harsh second layer of super sweetness. I can’t figure it out. Is it vanilla extract gone wild. Maybe just the hop blend is off. I love hopped stouts. But this one isn’t working for me. Disjointed.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 toffsbury (104) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 17, 2012
Intoxicating aroma. Chocolate coffee vanilla and bourbon and wonderful. Pours with a nice caramel head and perfectly black and opaque. Flavour is a mix of chocolate and espresso up front, with vanilla and creme brûlée undertones. Good gods. This makes me so happy. Very smooth, almost like a milk stout. Roasty coffee flavours linger on the tongue long after your sip is done. This beer is highly underrated.
