Dear Raters! We are pretty proud of this beer... It is the IPA child of the beer geek sessions with Ron Pattison... Talented historian and author of Scotland! (a must read if you are into Scottish beer!)... So the Mighty... came our of sessions looking at what Scottish brewers were doing in the 1800ís and namely what were they doing different from their English counterparts... Again it was into the mind of Ron and his excellent work in the Scottish Brewing Archives and the gems that we discovered was that the Scots were using hops from EVERYWHERE and in the same quantities as their English counterparts down in Burton. So this beer was brewed with the same hop balance (German, Czech, English and American)... so we used... Tettnager, Saaz, Mathons and Willamette. The coolest thing with the hops was Mathons.. IS the Original Farnham White Bine a 19th Century Hop that was the darling of Scottish brewers... and we were able to get our hands on the last of it. The other interesting thing to come to light was that the Scottish brewers didnít refer to their IPAs as IPA but as XP... so we chose to bring that back too! In fact we were the first craft brewer to actually bring back the old Scottish 19th century IPA style to the world... and we are pretty proud of that too. Want to beer geek out with us? Or just join for a beer or two and tell use how we can be better brewers - we are always looking to be better!!! (Cask at HBF2015) The beer poured golden and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had fruitiness and earth. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were sweetness, berries, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste had berries, fruitiness and bitterness. The berries felt like very foreign here.

At just on chilled and into a tulip it goes. Looks good. Healthy, snow-white crown settles at about a half inch and daubs a thin lace. The body is just shy of bright; a deep orange amber in colour with fine carbonation. Floral, honey licked toasted, sweet malt and English hop nose underlied by bready, doughy notes. On the palate it is at first typically English. Bready, toasted malts meet floral, zesty and spicy hops. Length of peppery, softly bitter hops changes it to Noble as it tapers off. Body is big with a mild malt astringency and dryish end. Hops are enjoyable. Not quite a refreshing, quaffable number; sits quite heavy in the stomach. Had elements I loved, and some that didnít work. Okay, but average. (33cL, 28/04/16, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

Bottle from cellarbrations super store in hami hill. Pours a hazy orange with a thin white head. Aroma is very subtle with hints if lemon, slight tropical fruit and malts. Carbonation is low and body is light. Taste is quite malt forward. It has a little peppery spice and perhaps a few grassy notes.

On cask at Alexander Graham Bell. Appearance - amber with a nice head. Nose - very delicate some citrus and gentle malt. Taste - tangy lemon pith creamy malt. Slightly sickly. Palate - a little unbalanced. The body is at least medium maybe needs to refresh on the end a bit more. The tang is a bit too much. Overall - enjoyed the Wee Xp more.

On tap at the Guildford armís Edinburgh a initally bland beer but a malty sweetness emerges followed a muted hop profile interesting take on the old world. Ipa

stravale (2430) - Near Carrick-on-Shannon, IRELAND - SEP 15, 2013
Cask @ AG Bell, Edinburgh [130913]
Golden. clear, dense white head, good lacing
Aroma - Slight sweet malt, touch of herbal hops
Taste - Caramel malt, touch of toffee, creamy caramel, bitter hops. mainly sweet malts, hops come across as just bitter as flavour masked by the malts...quite like the creamy malt, not sure about the hops
Palate - Medium body, oily, sweet toffee malts, bitter quite astringent hop. Finish - lingering bitter hop mixed with caramel. dryish, getting booze in the finish
Overall - Very malty for an IPA. hopping quite astringent on palate, seems to be a work in progress - needs refining
