This medium-bodied, classic brown ale balances its hop and malt flavours with subtle hints of chocolate. The slightly malty, lightly hopped finish has a touch of bitterness from the smooth Goldings hops. At 5 per cent ABV, it makes for a great session beer.

Bottle to pint glass Aroma of wheat, sweet grass, light syrup, and yeast. Deep amber, creamy tan head. Taste is both sweet and bitter, kind of fruity. Nothing great here, but passable.

Bottle, shared alongside the Pete Brown Tribute by Bear Republic. This was a tad thinner mouthfeel, and had more dark fruit character and less hops. Not bad, but certainly the runner up between these two.

Dark ruby-brown with a thin cap of biege bubbles that stick around until the end of the glass. Nice nutty malt on the nose, with a bit of roasted coffee, some dried tobacco leaf. Medium bodied. Well balanced flavour - semi-sweet malt to start, some charred coffee beans and a hint of cocoa in the middle, a passing suggestion of dark cherry, and a moderately dry and slightly woody finish, with a roasted hazelnut aftertaste. A very nice brown ale - just seems like it should be a bit more kickass to be a true D.O.A. beer.

Pours a hazy deep brown with an average off white head. Aroma is nutty, chocolate, toffee, and slight citrus. Taste is dark chocolate, nutty, coffee dryness, mildly acidic bit watery and a mild bitterness. Goes down pretty easy.

Pours a clear brown with a small frothy light brown head and some spotty lace. Aroma of chocolate, cocoa, nuts, roasted malt and a hint of coffee. Taste of chocolate, bitter cocoa, nutty and some coffee bitterness and acidity on the finish. Overall a very nice easy drinking brown ale.

650ml brown bottle. Dark brown pour with a small creamy white cap. Nose has light malts, bit of chocolate. Taste has chocolate malts, grains, bit of nut. Finishes with grain and light chocolate and light roasted malt, low bitterness. Pretty standard brown ale, not bad but far from exciting.

A very enjoyable stout like beer that has excellent malt flavours and hints of coffee and chocolate. A nice creamy head and excellent mouth feel. One of Old Yales best!

Reddish brown. Appears mostly clear. Thin, but creamy head. Aroma is nutty, toast, toffee, overripe fruit. Grainy. Sweet but balanced. Gentle drying bitterness without hop character.

650ml bottle pours a dark amber brown color with a finger of off-white head that leaves some spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma is light roasted grains and chocolate. Taste is a light roasted grain and light hop bitterness with a light chocolate malty sweetness. Medium bodied with light carbonation. A nicely done brown ale with an interesting blend of flavors. Enjoyable.

Lagerboy (1961) - British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 8, 2013
Bomber. Clear deep copper, creamy tan head settles and mostly lasts. Nutty, roasted chocolate malt aroma. Taste is roasted malts, semi-sweet cocoa bean and nuts. A faint, lightly bitter floral herbal hoppiness emerges as it warms. Soft carbonation, medium body, low hopped. Smooth and sessionable. A very good brown, but kind of a tame choice of style to represent hardcore punk pioneers D.O.A., an aggressive ASA such as Arrogant Bastard would be more suitable... just sayin’.
