Pours deep darkness with tan head. The aroma is dark roasty malts going into burnt molasses, toffee, a hint of dark chocolate and just a sense of dark fruity esters. The taste feels thinner than I expected bringing in dark roasty malts, some chocolate and black patent type malts. The highly roasted malts hold on in a robust way all the way to the finish. Nice stuff.

Dark brown with a thick head. Chocolate malt nose shows some huskiness. Light body, with some chocolate notes and a hint of nuttiness. OK rendition of style.

At CCB. Brown-black with foamy tan head. A little tartness in the nose but otherwise creamy stout aromas. The flavors are better than the aromas with nice cocoa, good roasted malt. On the sweeter side but with a nice bitter finish.

Courtesy of Wayne Wambles. Pours a very dark brown with a one finger light tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, some chocolate, and a hint of dark fruit in the finish. Taste is the same as aroma with a rich roasty goodness in the middle with chocolate and coffee following suit. Medium mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness and slightly roasty finish. A damn fine brew.

courtesy of Wayne. Pours clear brown with light beige head. Aroma of light roasted malts with notes of coffee. Taste roasted malts, coffee, possible light nutty mouthfeel, light hops and chocolate. Enjoyable, light mouthfeel makes for a good low abv stout.

2-liter bottle, courtesy Wayne. Pours dark brown, with reddish haze, creamy head and lacing. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, roasted malt, some banana, molasses is slight. Flavor is dry, smooth and crisp. Hard roasted grain, wheaty, dry finish. Smooth and very drinkable. Finishes with a coffee touch.

On draft at Cigar City. Thanks to Wayne for bringing this back from Alabama and Joey for the taste. Pours a dark colored body with a brown fluffy head. Fairly light aroma of toffee and espresso. The taste follows suit with sweet toffee and coffee flavors along with the typical chocolate and dark roast. This is a good little stout, and knowing the story behind it being a tuned down recipie of Zhukov’s Imperial Stout, you can really see the potential of a stronger version. It is good and obviously a little weak on purpose. Damn those alcohol laws in Alabama, or Olde Auburn would really have a great beer on their hands.

Beerlando (3342) - Orlando, Florida, USA - JAN 4, 2009
Draft at Cigar City Brewing. Wayne graciously brought a keg back with him from his travels to Alabama. The pour yields a dark mahogany colored body that shows translucent when backlit. A foamy, khaki colored head settles slowly, leaving spotty lacing behind. The aroma shows notes of dark cocoa, scorched caramel, coffee and plenty of roasted barley. Flavors follow suit, darkly roasted barley grain and burnt caramel showing strongest, with an ample serving of bittersweet cocoa and coffee. The body is a little thin for the style, though the carbonation is spot on. This is a nice enough little stout.
