COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An Lia Fail, Gaelic for the Stone of Scone, is an oblong block of sandstone that for centuries has served as the coronation stone for the monarchs of Scotland and Great Britain. In honor of such an historic artifact, we at Olde Burnside Brewing have created an historic beer. We created an Imperial Black and Tan that we aged in fresh whiskey barrels for over 6 months. The beer is a rich, dark ale with notes of chocolate and coffee, the barrel aging adds hints of whiskey, oak, and vanilla. Enjoy in a snifter by itself or with a nice blue cheese, roasted meat, or game Slainte!

Pour out of 500 mL swing top gushes out bottle, not a good sign. Imperial bourbon barrel black and tan sounds interesting however. Thanks for the pour Josh! Dark brownish black with big foamy tan head, aroma is sour apple, vinegar, acetic notes, slight biscuit, caramel, hints of vanilla, but the sour acetic notes take over. Taste is big sour apple and acetic vinegar, touch of caramel and biscuit, vanilla, slight earth, finishing pretty wine like. Too bad this was infected, seemed like a nice base.

swing top bottle purchased for 9.99. Pour has a dark brown color with a coating of off white head. Aroma has chocolate, light whiskey, vanilla, and dusty wood. mouth feel is a solid medium with light side carbonation. Flavor has brown malt, barrel wood, creamy chocolate, light whiskey, and some low bitterness. Easy drinking for the abv. but the barrel side is just not punchy enough and it is a bit thin for an imperial "black and tan" as they call it.

I wanted to root for the local guy on this one but alas it wasnt to be. This isnt a bad beer but it lacks in so many areas that the style cant lack in. First of all it poured an opaque" brown/black with light white head. Aroma is booze, toffee, cola?, and coffee. Taste is light and a bit boozy with very muted malt character. Palate is thin and uninviting. All that being said It didnt taste bad and had a nice light sweetness and some interesting elements.

Pours a thin breakfast tea brown, with no lacing. The aroma consists primarily of toffee, chocolate, vanilla, dark fruit and whiskey. The flavor is sweet and the palate is thin.

Sweet and lightly spicy malt aroma. Dark brown color with a medium tan head. Moderate sweet beginning developing a strong bitter finish that fades quickly in the end to a lingering light bitterness.

One of the most delicious beers Ive had recently, although advertised as a black and tan for the local market, beer geeks will call it an imperial stout. oil black and thickness, poured into a snifter, a little light shows through the glass but not much. almost no head or retention on the glass except for the whiskey-ish alcohol smear. definite burn to it, but its expected and appreciated. taste is a smell of a whiskey barrel, sharp, smooth, vanilla, dark fruit, sweet and smokey. wonderful.
