This barleywine is a special ale aged in oak bourbon barrels from the heart of Kentucky’s Bourbon Country. The long maturation of the beer in the bourbon barrels makes for a uniquely American Ale, offering robust and rich flavors.

22oz bottle acquired in trade with NachlamSie (thanks!). 2007 Vintage. Poured a medium to deeper amber color with a smaller sized off white head. Initial pour was clear which clouded up towards the bottom of the bottle. Aromas of bourbon, vanilla, caramel, nuttiness, and some citrus. Tastes of bourbon, vanilla, caramel, some dark fruits, and wood. Some alcohol in the finish.

[2007] Poured a clear amber color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel, bourbon wood, resiny pine, sherry, vanilla, and alcohol. Taste of sticky caramel malts, smoke, tobacco, pine, light citrus, vanilla, and a bourbony alcohol finish.

Thanks to hopdog for sharing this bottle from 2007. Pours a mostly translucent orange/amber with a small bubbly off white head. Aroma of tobacco, vanilla, bourbon, oak, caramel, port and alcohol. Flavor of tobacco, bourbon, oak, vanilla, mixed nuts, toasted oak and some alcohol burn.

22 oz bottle pours a slightly hazed copper amber with a tiny beige head. Complex aroma of charred wood, nuttiness, bourbon, caramel, vanilla, and flaked coconut. Taste mirrors the aroma, but adds a subtle pine hoppiness and some alcohol heat that isn’t out of place for style. Really interesting barleywine that is a pleasant sipper.

Bottle thanks to nearbeer. Dark orange-brown with a lasting off white ring. Aroma of charred oak, vanilla, bourbon, caramel. Taste is more charred oak barrel, vanilla, bourbon dominate with fruit and toffee in the background. Light alcohol burn in the finish.

[Bottle] shared by Donnie. Pours a hazy caramel with a light beige head. Aroma is quite oxidized, some vanilla and coconut from the bourbon, alcohol, and sweet malts. Flavor is quite oxidized, bourbon, dry, bitter, and a touch of malt.

Some oxidation, bourbon covers most of it. A little sweet, with moderate bourbon. Brown color.

SourFest II. 2007 Vintage. Courtesy of Donny. Copper color with a medium head. Solid vanilla and oak aroma. Wow... quite a menagerie of flavors going on here. The oak and vanilla start strong, fading into a carmel and rich malt and barley flavor. Bourbon is definitely noticeable. Kind of a raisiny fruitiness towards the finish. Delicious.

Sampled during Skyview Sourfest II in St Paul, MN. Supplied by Donny and Clint, a 22-oz bomber, pours a semi-hazy orange amber brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissipates to a fine film top. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, oak and raisins. Taste is medium to full bodied, vanilla and raisin with plenty of bourbon and oak flavors. Finish is malty with bourbon and vanilla aftertaste. The 2007 vintage has some nice aging effect to this cellared barley wine.

On tap. Orange/amber pour with a creamish head. Quite a bit of vanilla and oak araomas, some sweet malt, raisin molasses. Mouthfeel is quite sticky, but not real thick. A sipper for sure. Loads of malt, caramel and vanilla barrel in the flavors. If you want a west coast barleywine, you will not like this. Luckliy I did not, so I found this to be excellent. An under-rated Enlgish barleywine. This is the first item bottled by OHB, so I bought a couple as well. Is Bruisin Ales selling this for $17?? Got it for $10 at the brewery.
