Black Raven is a black IPA, aka Cascadian Dark Ale. Roasted malts give this beer its dark color & rich flavor. But make no mistake, this is still an IPA, with a massive amount of hops selected to balance the roasted malt character & add bitterness & flavor. Available on draft and for a limited time only.

Bottle from JCB. Dark brown-black pour with creamy tan head. Aroma is sweet floral pine and citrus with cocoa, brown sugar, nutty toasted malt, and mild roast. Flavor is a sharp, dry citrus rind bitterness with faint nose of roasted malt. Medium body. Long, dry, bitter finish with light coffee. Flavor profile is somewhat one-dimensional

UPDATED: JAN 9, 2014 Love this black IPA, beautiful tan head, but dark and hoppy to the core. Delicious finish.

Bomber that has been sitting in my parent’s fridge since I visited over a year ago. Black pour with a thin tan head and strong lacy retention. Aroma is chocolate, roasted coffee, grapefruit and maple. Tastes are burnt toast, caramel, coffee, earthy citrus bitter. Good balance. Thin to medium creamy texture. Nice.

Not much on the nose, but what is there smells very good. It doesn't look so great either. Dark brown and cloudy. But who cares? I didn't by this to look at and sniff. It tastes very good. Hoppy with a bunch of chocolate. Really good interpretation of cascadian dark. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours dark, dark brown with barely any head. Way undercarbonated. Big roasty, chocolate aroma. Taste is slightly burned malt with very assertive bitterness without much hops flavor to accompany it. Much more a slightly hoppy stout than a black IPA.

nice hoppy aroma, surprising maltyness. Small head. Very under carbonated, decent though with the t-bone I had along with this, Rather poor example of the style though

22 Ounce bottle poured into Stone 15th anniversary glass. A: Black with dark brown edges when held to light. 1 and a half finger tan head of very fine bubbles, good retention. N: Roasted chocolate malt mixing with earthy/piney hops. Very inviting. T: Similar to the nose but with a surprising entrance of peanut butter. Semi sweet chocolate, pine hops, and coffee grounds in the middle with medium hop bitterness in the finish. M: Just a hair high on the carbonation but with a silky almost oily coating of the palete leaving me wanting more. O: Great version of the Black IPA coming second only to Dubhe from Uinta in my book.

This is a nice example of the style. The hopping is aggressive, the beer is dark and attractive and the expectation of a rich, lightly roasty backbone is there. Good stuff.

From a tap into a tullip glass. Pours a jet black color with a nice thick light tan head which leaves great lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, pine. Taste has a nice blend of bitter hops, roasted malt. Full body mouthfeel. Overall a great beer.
