New Frontier Beer: Boone, travelling through Kentucky on his way to the frontier, needed a place to store his beer. He placed an imperial brown in discarded bourbon barrels. Months later he had an amazing beer that would cellar well. And so the legend was born. *Events presented here are not factual, but are based on actual events. In our dreams. After sampling the beer a few times. Cheers!

Cheesy label on bomber. Foggy, chestnut brown beer without much head. Nice nose: woody caramel, vaporous and sweet. A little mineral, tangy, woody, sweet, caramel/toffee tones and alcohol bittering. Medium heavy boddy, wood-bitter aftertaste. Pretty good, sweeter as it warms. Thanks to LuckyDog.

25-Jul-13 (22-oz bottle: Thursday Night Bottle Share, shared by Brian)
This beer pours a medium brown, translucent body with a short cap of tan head that settles to a bubbly ring. The nose is caramely malt, toffee, vanilla, prune, bourbon whiskey, and oak barrel, but it smells pretty boozy and alcoholic. On the palate, wow, the oak, vanilla, and boozy bourbon really stand out, possibly because the sweet, caramely malt base isn’t powerful enough for this level of intense barrel treatment. Brown sugar and some prune and raisin sometimes emerge from under the boozy cloak. It’s medium in weight, but comes across and a bit thin and watery for a bourbon barrel beer. Carbonation is medium, and the beer is sweet but not cloying. Unfortunately, there’s also a suggestion of heat on the palate, mostly from retro-nasal sensations. Overall, this beer is too tilted toward the boozy, bourbony barrel aging for me to really enjoy it. I’d like it more if the base beer had more weight here, but better yet would be to tone down the barrel’s impact.
