3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Big thanks to Jon for bringing this one in! Pours a murky brown with small bubbly head. Nose and flavor bring beautiful hazelnut, caramel, and molasses but with some good boozy bite and vanilla to expand the palate of this brown ale. Medium bodied, with a strange astringency at the finish that I expect would fade with a month or two of age. Tasty stuff!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle thanks to TURDFERGUSON: Poured a deep brown with a carbonated off white bubble head, it dissipated fast to leave a jello like thin film. Aroma is strong caramel malt with a nice boozy bourbon hint. Taste is very complex with roasted caramel malt, souring wood, vanilla and bourbon mixed. A delightful brown ale for a change.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
22oz Bottle. The pour was a murky medium chestnut brown with an average (1-2 finger) light brown creamy head that was mostly diminishing, reducing down to a thin puddled film and medium collar which produced only fair streaky lacing.
It had an aroma that was of toasted sweet dark bread malts and an earthy leathery yeast with notes of chocolate, vanilla, caramel, bourbon and a slight nutty/woody scent.
As for the taste it was sweet and malty with a hint of caramel and a touch of chocolate pretty much throughout, with the finish having a strong vanilla presence and a slightly nutty alcohol ending. The flavor lingered for an average duration proceeding the swallow with a boozy, sweet, nutty, cask taste settling nicely on the taste buds.
Mouthfeel was medium in body and a bit dry in texture with a soft mild carbonation.
Overall this brew screams booze and vanilla towards the end, with the middle having a light chocolate-caramel sweetness and a nice dark roastiness...

22 ounce bottle thanks to Geoff. Nice carbonation. Slightly boozy nose. Caramel and brown sugar and molasses like sweetness in taste. A little bit sticky. Not too much bourbon on the taste.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from Justin. Aroma and flavor of light caramel malts, limited hop, and a lot of sweet bourbon. Not the biggest fan of this one, but it did the job to mellow out the fact that I didn’t catch a fish the whole weekend. Ok beer.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle shared by a friend. Clear copper pour with a medium tan head. Aroma of caramel, bourbon and yeasty esters. Caramel and booze also in the flavor, but there’s an eerie tartness that speaks to infection. Hoping to try this one again and will re-rate if it’s better.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Bruisin’ Ales. Brown, thin white head, but a bonus appearance point for the cool label. Smells like brown sugar, molasses, honey and bourbon. Very heavy, a also a bit boozy. Lots of brown sugar, molasses, and vanilla and a little bit of oak.

2012.07.18 - on tap at Appalachian Vintner. Nothing magical but a nice balance between sweet and roasty brown ale.
