A Greek epithet for Dionysus, Eiraphiotes means "Twice-Born." This Imperial Pilsner was a stellar beer right out of the conditioning tank, but its second birth from chardonnay barrels has transformed it into a truly magnificent creation. Very Limited Production.

750mL shared at Berliner Bash. Low haze deep orange pour with creamy foam and medium lace. Sticky orange nose. Slick bourbon like taste with sharp grassy hops. Tangy and bitter palate. Mild stickiness and bourbon laden toffee. Not too bad. Thick and heavier.

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, slightly hazy golden pour with white head, aroma brought notes of lots of biscuit, bread, hints of grain into some pine, grass, slight spicy, yeasty notes with a very slight touch of fruit. Taste had a mix of biscuit, dough, yeast into some grass, slight earthy notes into a hint of spice, some slight fruit, finishing fairly bitter, dry.

750 ml bottle via NC trade - thanks again, John! 2012 vintage, acquired in 2013, opened in 2014. Pours a clear gold with a small white, wispy head. Notes of oak, pale and sweet and biscuit malts, corn, straw, grass, mild spice, and dried fruit. Light-medium bodied, with a sweet, malty mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Virtually no chardonnay character (left?) but plenty of oak. Imperial pilsners aren’t my thing to begin with, but this one was not bad. I wish I’d opened it fresher; may have liked a more wine-influenced one better.

750 ml bottle shared by b3shine. Pours a hazy orange amber color with a small bubbly off white head. The aroma has some yeasty bread, herbal, mild fruits, and definite chardonnay influences. The flavor is fruity, chardonnay notes, old herbal hops, yeasty bread with some dry grass at the finish. I found this to be interesting and worth a try.

I can see why the ratings are mixed on this. Pours a clear yellow color with a medium white head. A sweet nose of dusty lemon and barrel. The flavor is vinous with wood, some lemon and zesty oranges, pretty mellow. Easygoing but flavorful. Nice.

750 ml bottle to snifter (2012 vintage). Looks good; a cloudy orange with white lacing. Smells solid; sweet and doughy with nice Chardonnay notes. Tastes like it smells with some hoppiness. Average on the palate. Enjoyable.

Bottle - thanks JCB! Well this is an interesting one! First pour is clear, but hazy to cloudy after that. Nice butterscotch color with some fizzy off white head that leaves good lacing in its wake. Aroma is very grapey, honey, grass, grain. Flavor is the same, medium sweet, very vinaceous. Light bitterness initially, but it grows with drinking. Light astringence from the time in barrel. Medium body, flat carbonation, creamy mouthfeel. Lingering bitterness in the far finish. A very interesting beer and one I enjoyed drinking.

Dark golden color with a small, white head that left lighter lacing on the glass. Aroma of honey, vanilla, toasted oak, and some Chardonnay notes. Taste of toast, toffee malts, vanilla, citrus, wood, and a dry chardonnay finish.

This was pretty good. Olde Hickory has really stepped up their game of late, and this is another good one from them. Lots of chardonnay and oak on the note, as well the flavor. This style, which I usually don’t care for that much, seems to really take to the winey flavors from the barrel. Smooth and surprisingly light
