COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is STOUT beer, not for the meek! Hickory Stick Stout is a whole- lot-a beer full of malt. English pale and crystal malts start this beer quickly followed by big time chocolate and black patent malts. Tons of Cascade hops go into Hickory Stick Stout to round out the malt character. Hickory Stick Stout is a very robust stout, bursting with flavor!

My Bottom Line:
Vanilla and dark fruit plunge into an ashy, roasty finish in this slender Stout.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the blackness.
-The nose was promising, but that overly roasty ending decreased drinkability and enjoyment somewhat.
-Like all Olde Hickory brews I’ve had, this is flavorful throughout but lacks refinement, smoothness.

On tap at the Olde Hickory Station.

A dark brown stout with a thin mocha head. In aroma, nice bitter chocolate with resinous floral hops, grapefruit, treacle, very nice. In mouth, a nice bitter chocolate malt with coffee grind, musty character, floral hops, grapefruit pulp, hoppy stout. On tap at Olde Hickory Station.

BBD 12/14. Pours dark as a starless night with a massive World Class head, lacing and retention. Nice, but somewhat subtle, nose of sweet dark chocolate with only a hint of roast. Very light medium body with just a touch of creamy texture. Slightly above normal carbonation with some effervescence in the middle and finish. The flavor profile is intense, a bit complex and fairly balanced. It begins with a bitter rush of dark chocolate that fades into coffee notes. The sweet aspects of the nose are not present. In turn, the coffee releases into a mild bitter roast with citric, but not quite rind like, hop bitterness. The finish is somewhat dry and leaves you with a distinctive aftertaste of charred grain. Similar to Bell’s Kalamazoo, but a bit more refined.

a pretty great stout, full of the flavors you would expect for a stout of this caliber.

Bomber from trade. I rarely say this about stouts, but I did not like at all. Not much aroma - roast and faint coffee. Dark pour. Taste and palate disappoint. Thin watery over burnt malt with burnt coffee added for fun. No

Draft at Carolina’s Vineyards & Hops. Dark brown pour. Oddly off-balanced with some stale coffee notes getting in the way of any chocolate, roast, or earthiness that may be going on. Slightly stale tasting. Couldn’t put my finger on it.

On draft. Dark brown color with beige head. Smokey, burnt wood taste. Ends slightly better.

22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, some smokiness, hints of chocolate and coffee, and light dough. Flavor the same with an average texture. A decent stout.
