COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is STOUT beer, not for the meek! Hickory Stick Stout is a whole- lot-a beer full of malt. English pale and crystal malts start this beer quickly followed by big time chocolate and black patent malts. Tons of Cascade hops go into Hickory Stick Stout to round out the malt character. Hickory Stick Stout is a very robust stout, bursting with flavor!

Aroma is mostly roasted malt hints of raisins. Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Taste is roasted malt and a hint of sweetness. Medium bodied and medium carbonation. Overall, enjoyable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours very dark and thick with only a moderate head. Nice roasted flavors to it and thick, though really easy to drink. Good stout.

Enjoyed this one...good sessionable stout. Pours translucent brown, very very roasty in the nose and palate. Dry finish. Shared a 22oz with a friend and polished it off quickly, so I guess itís sessionable. Very good lighter stout.

The beer pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is fairly straightforward but is pretty nice. I get a lot of chocolate and roasted malt notes in the aroma, two qualities that are repeated in the flavor. In addition, I also get some coffee notes in the flavor which go nicely with the other characteristics. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle. Pours nearly black with a medium-sized tan head that leaves a bit of lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, some coffee and chocolate, some citrus and floral hops. Flavor is roasty malt, some coffee and chocolate, hints of vanilla, citrus, and some light tartness. Not a big fan of hopped stouts; the citrusy notes in this one leave me a bit cold. Palate is a little thin. Pretty dry; only mildly bitter. But all in all, still a pretty good stout.

Originally reviewed: 1/26/10. Bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours a very deep black with a thin cola-like head on top. This pops and fizzles away to nothing pretty quick. Leaves some really pretty sip rings and sticky globs on the glass though. Scents of mild roasted coffee, burnt matches, and grassy hops. I like that hop scent in a big dark beer! The body is creamy and smooth with a bit of heaviness to it. Lightly drying finish. Great woodsy flavors in this beer. Like others have said, Iím not sure if Hickory was used in the making of this, but it does carry a wood-like flavor with it. Good black coffee flavors meld to a semi-sweet chocolate finish. Some bittering hops are noted as well. This is good, well-hopped Stout that I would not mind having again and again. So glad this is around the area now. Kudos, Olde Hickory!

The beer is dark brown in color with an off-white head. Pretty meh stout. Roasted malt is the primary aroma, otherwise itís watery, bland, and boring. A mild acidity to the nose and a hint of coffee. The flavor is no different. Certainly overcabonated which doesnít help out the mouthfeel or perception of acidity. Roasted malt, a bit of watery coffee, and maybe some chocolate. Overall, the same problem on the nose is present on the palate: this is just bland and watery.

Bottle. Dark brown pour, light tan head. Dark roast, chocolate, light coffee, and hop bitterness. A decently average stout.

22oz bottle that my brother brought back for me from Charlotte, thanks Jeff! Pours a black body with a finger-width, creamy, darker brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is roasts, some citrus pines and florals, and a crystal malt sweetness with dark chocolate, a light char, and a touch of chewy caramel. Flavor is woody and oaky up front with some flat vanilla and slightly charred roasts. Some grapefruit citruses and a very light chocolate in the middle with some crystal malts as well. Woody hops grow towards the end along with the roast as this finishes dry and moderately bitter before leaving a lengthy aftertaste. Medium body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, an alright stout. Pretty roasty and slightly charred with some citrusy and woody hops, but not enough of a malt backing. Nothing special.
