3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Thanks to the guys at the end of the bar who poured this for me. Pours black with a thin tan head. Toffee, roasted grain aroma. Taste is more of the same, roasted grain, some cara notes with hints of chocolate.

Very dark. Light brown head. Roasty aroma plus fig jam plus alcohol, maybe some cocoa. Sweeter and thinner than expected. Dry finish. Earthy.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Nose was coffee, roast, with some sweetness in the background and chocolate. Taste was roasted malts, and chocolate. The body was a little thin, but overall this was a good beer.

1.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
bomber thanks to emacge... looks black at a glance, but in the light its dark brown, weak disappointing light tan head is gone right away, only a small watery ring... light nose, mostly light char, some chocolate as it warms... the taste is terrible, watery cigarette ash, yuck, nothing redeeming here at all, why?

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours from the bottle with an expected black color and a small but present fizzy tan head. The aroma is quite pleasant, with a light coffee and milk character at first that eventually opens up to include notes of dark cocoa powder as it warms. The flavor is likewise lighter at first, with characteristics of light milk chocolate and black coffee that give way to a nice, deep (almost burnt) roasted malt flavor. The abundant, prickly carbonation is distracting at first, but it mellows with time to a nice moderate level that melds well with the rich roasted flavors.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Poured into a pint glass.
4.0 A: Black color. Two fingers of creamy/frothy tan head. Retention is average with a solid ring of lacing being left behind.
3.5 S: Roasted barley, coffee, and citrusy hops are the most prominent aromas. Iím not a big fan of black IPAs and this seems as much like one as a stout. Thereís some caramel and chocolate underneath the main flavors, but the hops are too strong for my liking and the malts are too weak.
3.0 T: The taste is like the nose, but even hoppier. Orange citrus hops and a more than moderate bitterness make this a hop forward stout. There is a ton of coffee flavor in this though. After that thereís a solid roastiness, caramel, and a light burntness.
3.5 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Not really creamy.
3.5 D: This is a good pick for black IPA fans. For people like me that donít like dark malts and hops, itís best to stay away from.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Received in trade from brentk56, thanks for the opportunity.
Pours a solid black color with a fluffy khaki head that slowly recedes to lots of chunky lace. Smells heavy on the roasted malts, lots of coffee, caramel, and chocolate mixed with some smoke and a hint of citrus and pine. Taste is much the same. Dark roasted malts leaning heavy on the coffee end. Pine hops come through midway and finishes with a dry long lingering roasted coffee bitterness. Medium body and light carbonation. Nice Stout! I really enjoyed this one, but it does finish a little dry for my liking. I wouldnít hesitate to imbibe this one if it were more accessible.
