Blacker than night, stouter than stout is our Imperial Stout. Brewed with a lot of malt & a touch of honey, Imperial Stout is rich & robust with deep, deep notes of dark chocolate & espresso.

Draft from Amos Howard’s. Pours black with an inch of thick khaki foam. Some chocolate roast notes on the nose. Lots of roasted malt on the tongue. I get a touch of the honey as well both in terms of sweetness but also a slight slickness in the mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden but gives off a nice warming feeling on the finish. Solid!

Bottle at the ChrisO Snow Tasting, London. Many thanks to Bruce for this one. Pours black with a creamy, tan cap. Big dark chocolate aroma, some iodine character. Medium to big sweet flavor with lightly charred malts, smoke, chocolate cake, earth, salt. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Moderate warmth on the finish, some burnt wood, cocoa. Nice.

UPDATED: OCT 1, 2013 Sampled at a bottleshare. Black color. Thin dark brown head, fades to a ring. Leaves some lace. Dark fruit in the nose. Honey, cocoa powder. Big body. Creamy, velvety texture. Light carbonation. Bitter sweet taste. Some alcohol warmth in the finish, not at all bothersome. Really tasty - great texture. Nice, unique stuff 8/4/8/4/15

Re-rate, 9/26/13: Sample from a bottle. A bit cloying sweet... Lowered taste score by 1 pt

Black, tight tan head. Odd aroma - brazil nuts wth chocolate coating? That and alcohol. Thick creamy palate, a bit fatty and slick. Pretty decent roast, but too sugary.

2011 bottle at ChrisO Snow Tasting, thanks to Bruce. It pours very dark brown with a small light tan head. The nose is roasted malt, tar, coffee, dark honey, soy sauce, toasted sesame seed, caramel and espresso. The taste is roasted malt, espresso, earth, burnt wood, dark chocolate, charcoal, toasted coconut and some soy sauce with a dry finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. Pretty smooth and hides the alcohol well. Not bad, but I dislike the soy-sauce aspect.

Aged this one about a year and thought it was DAMN GOOD. Pours black with tan head and nearly no carbonation or lacing. It’s thick without being too sweet or syrupy, lots of chocolate cocoa, roasty, hazlenut, and maybe a little anise. Coffee is present throughout, especially in the finish. Very good.

Bottle a Chriso’s tasting 20/01/2013. Black with a big olde tan head. Treacle sweet caramel aroma. A bit boozy. Big bold roast toasty flavour, lingering bitter finish . A little salty soy sauce in there as well. Medium sweet,
