Irish Walker is brewed with six different malts and a blend of four classic hops. A long fermentation and cold aging makes Irish Walker a well rounded and complex Barley Wine. Irish Walker exhibits malty sweetness, fruity esters and malty balance. This ale will age well for years to come, or just enjoy now with good company. Cheers!

Mine was actually a 2012....Smooth and sweet but without much in the way of distinguishing flavors. Lots of carmel, sticky, not much in the way of hops. Finish is lingering. Good but nothing remarkable.

Bottle sampled at Kurtís Blarneywine tasting on 3/16/13. Clear copper in color with a thin beige head. Caramelly malt nose with some alcohol. Malt and caramel flavor with some chocolate before a dry finish.

2011 vintage into a Founders 15íth glass. Really digging the wax job with the stamp on top of the cap. A - Pours a very dark brown body. Look more like a stout than a barleywine. Two fingers of light mocha foam sticks around for a long time. Excellent lacing and retention. S - Now I know why its so dark. Lots of roasted malts, char, and chocolate combined with the traditional toffee, brown sugar, and raisins. A bit of faded piney hops and some booze T - Toffee, heavily roasted malts, brown sugar, molasses, raisins, and a metallic aftertaste alongside light oxidation. Its pretty tasty but rather lackluster. The mouth feel is great though, rich and creamy. O - A very roasty barleywine with a lot of good attributes but none that shine too bright. The metallic aftertaste takes its toll and oxidation is starting to creep in. Iím happy to have tried it but it wasnít exactly memorable.

Sample at the Blarney Wine tasting on 03/16/2013: Murky brown color with a medium beige head that dissipates quickly. Short strings of lace. Aroma of malt, grain and fruit. Full body with flavors of earthy malt, caramel and a touch of booze. The finish is slightly smoky with a malt and ripe fruit aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle at RBWG 2013 Grand Tasting. Pours clear amber, fine creamy head. Classic American barley wine, lots of bitter pine, some caramel. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish, leafy buttress, pine, caramel. Good stuff. A bit bitter, though.

Brown pour, small beige head. Caramel malt, figs, raisins, toffee, and dough. Cloying, sweet, full-bodied, and a strong bitter finish.

2012 bottle. Pour is dark ruby brown with large bubbly tan head. Smell is musty raisins, caramel, old grapes, big malts, earthy. Taste is muddled dark fruits, minor cardboard flavor (not from oxidation me thinks), caramel, earthy hops. Malts do come of nice and creamy. Considering there isnít too much age on this, I doubt it would be too much different fresh. Good but not great due to too much earthy/cardboard/old basement.

22 ounce bomber. Crazy smells spill out of this one: barnyard gas and cheese, and I liked it. Dark brown appearance and tan head. Flavor is malt-driven, husky cheese and yeasty. Unconventional and inevitably off-putting for some who donít care for cheese and yeast flavored beverages. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Overall, a fun beer thatís highly enjoyable in small doses. Anything more than 6 ounces of this may wear you out, so youíll want to plan on sharing this one.

Bottle shared by Bob a couple years ago. Doubt I will see this one again so thought I would go ahead and enter my rating. Like the more current batches, this is your typical big, dark American barleywine made with tons of hops and malt. Lots of brown sugar, dark fruits, and caramel. Solid, a little on the sweet side.
