Irish Walker is brewed with six different malts and a blend of four classic hops. A long fermentation and cold aging makes Irish Walker a well rounded and complex Barley Wine. Irish Walker exhibits malty sweetness, fruity esters and malty balance. This ale will age well for years to come, or just enjoy now with good company. Cheers!

22oz bottle, 2011 vintage, received in trade. Thanks! Pours a deep, reddish brown color with an off white head. Aroma is fruity, plums, raisin, toffee. Medium on the palate with carbonation. Flavor is sweet, malty, caramel, toffee, light breadiness, with a sweet, malty finish. A nice barley wine style ale.

Bottle: The aroma consists of molasses, caramel, toffee, and mild whiskey. It pours a transparent orangish-brown with a small beige head that quickly fades to a very fine ring. The flavor starts with molasses, caramel, and toffee. The finish has mild whiskey with a touch of vanilla. It’s medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Bottle. 2011 vintage. Pours a deep reddish mahagony copper color with a slight light tan head. Nice rich aroma with caramel, toffee, brown sugar notes. Medium mouthfeel. The taste doesn’t old together as much as I like the aroma but it’s pretty good. Medium mouthfeel but feels a bit thin. Sweet caramel notes upfront with a slight bitter kick towards the end. Overall, pretty tasty but not the best I’ve had.

Bottle:   2012 vintage.   Deep brown, mahogany hues, moderate foamy light beige head, fairly nice lacing.   Strong dark bready aroma, molasses and burnt brown sugar round it out.   Seems a malty example for sure.   Big whole wheat breadiness on the tongue, malty, brown sugar that isnt so sweet, same with the molasses.   Sweetness is much more subdued.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Dark bready finish, dull mollasses and brown sugar notes.   Not hoppy, not sharp or bright, very malty.   Decent example, but would love more brightness and some more citrus sweetness.   Thanks for this opportunity Jeff!

Thanks to GatorGuy92 for the share. Cheers, Matt! Pours a dark caramel/ copper color with an off-white head. Nose is plums, prunes, toffee, and raisins. Flavor is similar- big fruity malt. I get lots of prunes, dates, raisins, and fruit with some boozy bitterness on the back end. Interesting beer.

I’m not normally a huge malt fan, but I really like this one. Pours a very dark amber color with a perfect moderate head. Has a smell reminiscent of a lot of stronger red wines. Flavor is heavily malty, yet retains a very nice balance.

Draft at olde hickory tap room. Pours coca cola brown with a thin khaki head which doesn’t leave any lacing. A bit of malt and a lot of alcohol on the nose. Taste notes are a bit of sweetness and surprisingly gulpable for the style. Solid but not spectacular.

Tap at Mellow Mushroom, Greensboro. Pours clear dark mahogany with a small tanned head leaving lace. Aroma is sweet fruity raisins bready toasted malty. Flavor is very sweet and fruity in front, more fruits like apples, canned pears, fidges and prunes with medium bitterness sustaining to the end with sweets and fruits. Finishes bitter sweet. A bit too sweet and not so barley wine like as I had expected, but still nice.

Bomber. Slightly hazy maroon color with a pretty large white head. Strong aroma of vanilla, wood, and alcohol. It doesn’t say so in the description, but it sure smells like it’s spent some time in a barrel. Anyway, the flavor is more of the same with some maple syrup and bourbon. Fairly long finish, but not overly hot for the strength. Excellent brew that warmed me right up.
