COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Irish Walker is brewed with six different malts and a blend of four classic hops. A long fermentation and cold aging makes Irish Walker a well rounded and complex Barley Wine. Irish Walker exhibits malty sweetness, fruity esters and malty balance. This ale will age well for years to come, or just enjoy now with good company. Cheers!

2012 bottle. Pour is dark ruby brown with large bubbly tan head. Smell is musty raisins, caramel, old grapes, big malts, earthy. Taste is muddled dark fruits, minor cardboard flavor (not from oxidation me thinks), caramel, earthy hops. Malts do come of nice and creamy. Considering there isn’t too much age on this, I doubt it would be too much different fresh. Good but not great due to too much earthy/cardboard/old basement.

22 ounce bomber. Crazy smells spill out of this one: barnyard gas and cheese, and I liked it. Dark brown appearance and tan head. Flavor is malt-driven, husky cheese and yeasty. Unconventional and inevitably off-putting for some who don’t care for cheese and yeast flavored beverages. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Overall, a fun beer that’s highly enjoyable in small doses. Anything more than 6 ounces of this may wear you out, so you’ll want to plan on sharing this one.

Bottle shared by Bob a couple years ago. Doubt I will see this one again so thought I would go ahead and enter my rating. Like the more current batches, this is your typical big, dark American barleywine made with tons of hops and malt. Lots of brown sugar, dark fruits, and caramel. Solid, a little on the sweet side.

Hazy red - brown beer, good pale tan head. Softish palate, a little fine carbonation. Lactose creamy malt with minor caramel and toffee Good balance of bitterish orange marmalade hops. Touch of peach. Mild aniseed alcohol. Decent.

Bottle. Pours a hazy deep amber with a brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has a lot of caramel with some sweet grains and just a hint of grass. Flavor starts with smooth caramel with sweet grains with a bit of grassy hops.

2011 bomber. Poured muddy, deeper brown with a creamy cap of yellowy-beige head. The aroma picked up fruity notes, toasted grains, and a touch of scorched molasses over sweet caramel and rich bready notes.. warm and inviting. The flavor found tangy, bitter, slightly broken-down pine, citrus, and lesser fruity hops upfront, with sweet, warm molasses and aged caramel behind.. peppery notes and more tasty fruit laced throughout.. finished spicy and warm with tasty, sweet malts backing. Medium-plus bodied and fairly aggressive with tartness and bitterness on the palate.. OK feel to it.. overall a tasty brew.

Looks solid in that there is a small shortly sustained head and a rich color. Not much else to say. I like the aroma, richness with a faint alcohol, light dark fruits and toffees. The flavors are less rich, partially cut down by a hint of alcohol but it isn’t hot by any means, there is just less richness and sweet density on the palate, still caramel and toasted toffee, just less of it, the dark fruits come out more, a bit of a pomegranate like note that has a faint itty bitty tannin aspect. mouth feel is medium bodied. Nice, solid, enjoyable Barleywine, not phenomenal, but a nice beer to drink solo in an evening.

2012. Caramely nose, fresh malts, pretty straightforward. Could really shine with a year in barrels.

Bottle courtesy of Paul at Clockwork’s Dec 8th, 2012 tasting. Pours a deep, hazy brown body with moderate to light lacing. Aroma is maple, toffee, sugar and light earthy hop. Mouthfeel is medium with a nice bitter hop, maple and toasted malts.

Sample pour of deep murky brown with half finger khaki head. Nose is malty sweet and smooth. Corn and grains, wheat, alcohol... Toffee, but a lot of wheat. Flavor is light chocolate notes with more wheat and grain. Smooth and not too alcoholic. Drinkable, but not my favorite.
