3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle courtesy of @jbwimer. Thanks man. Pours pitch black and viscous looking with a small creamy dark mocha brown head. Aroma of lots of chocolate, booze, and tart raspberries. Some roast in there, oaky vanilla bourbon notes. Interesting. Flavor is roasty bitter up front, fades into tart raspberries, some chocolate and booze. Pretty hot for 10%. The tart raspberries are a little strange intermingled with the roast here, but I tend to always have this response to fruit in my stouts. Super rich and creamy mouthfeel with low to medium carbonation.
I’ve wanted to try this one for a while, and in terms of quality of the stout here it is top notch. But I think the fruit just makes it a funky experience for me. Fruit/sour/tart just doesn’t work for me with roast and chocolate. The bitterness is a bit much for the tart complement, and it makes it tough to put down more than a few ounces. Nevertheless, I’m pushing through. If you love fruited stouts, this is the bees knees. I recognize the quality of the craft here. These just never seem to hit my flavor spots.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Solid fruity stout, though the berries aren’t nearly as aggressive or impressive as in Backyard Rye. Works well but is far from greatness.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
My Bottom Line:
This brew’s raspberry syrup, bourbon vanilla, roasted malts and alcohol conjure up a sweet, Americanized chocolate truffle.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam surrounds the brown-edged black.
-The raspberry aroma is intensely sweet. Fitting, but too intense.
-A light acidity helps cut out some of the sweetness in the end.
-This is quite the dessert.
On tap at the Olde Hickory Station.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A deep dark Imperial stout with a thin brown head. In aroma, nice sweet fruity chocolate malt with light bourbon barrel, vanilla extract, Nestlé quick, nice. In mouth, a sweet fruity chocolate malt with light raspberry jam, intense, coffee grind, alcohol warmth, very nice. On tap at Olde Hickory Station.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a deep black from the bomber with thin ring of bubbly tan head that leaves light lace. Aroma is definitely sweet bourbon with honey and slight fruit over the top. Taste is more balanced toward the fruit, bourbon stout, and sweet booze. Sweet and thick, big warming booze. Nicely done.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
It pours fairly black with little head or lacing. It has a coffee aroma, with bourbon, and hints of chocolate. It has a coffee taste mixed with bourbon overtones and chocolate.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours a dark redish brown, nearly black, with a thin brown head that fades quickly. Aroma is raspberry, chocolate, and roast. Flavor is also raspberry, chocolate, a hint of vanilla, fudge, and roast. It tastes like a raspberry cake roll up dipped in chocolate! Low carbonation and a ultra smooth mouth feel. Raspberry in the start and finish has just the slightest touch of coffee. Very dark rich and silky smooth. You can note the alcohol presence but it is not overpowering. Perfect balance. A great beer for desert or really anytime. Excellent.
