While hunting in the lands of CHaos, Orion was blinded by an angry father. He was forced to travel through the dark wilderness in search of the Sun to restore his sight. Orion was very thirsty and wanted a delicious Belgian-style ale brewed with rye. Orion may have been a myth, but our Orion is real. Pour gently to avoid rousing the yeast of this living ale. Best enjoyed with friends and nymphs from a tulip glass or chalice.

16.9 ounce bottle from Appalachian Vintner. Pours a hazy orange color with a thin white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of citrus, yeast, bread, rye. The taste is citrus, stone fruits, rye, pale malts. Medium bodied, well balanced, quite fruity. Nice saison.

Cloudy, semi-opaque orange, thin white head. Smells winey, floral, and lightly citrus. Taste is woody, nicely sweet, some citrus, and good deal of white wine flavors. Seems a bit heavy on the palate, too. But overall very tasty.

My sample fizzed quite a bit, so have a towel handy! Comes out of the bottle a nice clear amber with a fairly thick cream-yellow head. Strong aroma has malty, caramel, yeasty, apple and subtle butterscotch notes. Flavor has a strong apple note, somewhat like a cider, along with malty, hoppy and caramel notes. Hop bitterness nicely counterbalances the fruity sweetness. Smooth, solid texture has a good amount of tingle and life. Be sure to hunt for this one!

So, this will be the second bottle of uncarbonated saison from OH I have had. So these notes are based on a still beer: Soft hazy golden amber, visible body more than expected given style. No head or carbonation. Nose is fruity, banana and spicy phenolics. Lightly tart, lots of bready notes. Lots of vegetal and off notes. Not enjoying this one. Need to figure this bottle conditioning thing out....

Bottle. Pours a hazy orange-gold color with almost zero head. Very sour and citrusy in the smell. Not nearly as much flavor as the nose would intimate. Slightly sour and feels gritty.

From draft sampler at the tap house. sweet, warm, banana, clove, bready, light funk - sticky oily sweet - not my thing - 5.6

Draft at tasty’s beverage. Pours the color of egg yellows with a small white head that leaves very little lacing. Not much on the nose. Slight farmhouse funk on the tongue. Clean finish. Not the best effort from Olde Hickory.

Bottle shared by someone somewhere cuz I wasn’t going to take a chance on a bottle after the other "farmhouse" messes I have had from OHB. This one was no different, wtf is going on here? Maybe they should just stick to stouts and ipa’s which they do pretty well. Like the other, it just tastes vegetal and off.

750ml from Sam’s, Durham. I’ve liked some of OH’s farmhouse stuff a bit better than some, but Orion falls a bit short of the mark. Bright light orange pour, minimally carbonated, it’s got a nose of apple juice and moderately sharp booze (perhaps some raw wood and allspice in there too). Mouthfeel’s a bit soupy, and the flavors one-dimensional: bready, phenolic, strong cider. Not great.

Tulip at Busy Bee. Ok aroma, sweet, little funky. Fruity. Green apple, minor banana. Fairly clean brownish orange. No head or lace. Sweet flavor. Lighter body, oily mouthfeel, sweet finish. It’s ok, easy to drink borders good, but comes up a little short for me. Mild aroma and flavor keeps it down.
