3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
picked up this bottle at bestway after hearing much ado about it. i don’t think it really lived up to the hype, but it was delicious.aroma is sweet, and the wood aging is evident. i even think i can smell the honey. taste is sweet as well, very light roast flavors. lots of bourbon vanilla and honey. the palate is super slick, and sort of light at the same time. overall it was very good, but i felt the sweetness was a little out of balance. i guess i was expecting more robust roast and hops. good beer, drink it if you find it.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Unknowingly tried this the same day it was named the best beer in North Carolina on here. Pours a thick opaque black from the bomber with thin ring of bubbly tan brown head that leaves light lace and thick black slips down the glass. Aroma of big barrel notes, vanilla and chocolate sweetness, then a big roasted malt backbone. Taste follows, huge barrel notes, with molasses honey sweetness, dark chocolate, and a hint of dark fruits. Wow, really a great beer and worthy of the title.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
The bourbon barrel is not a heavy influence on this beer as is with many other barrel aged imperial stouts. What I really liked about this one the most was they managed to pack the flavor in while still maintaining a lower abv, which increases drinkability for me. Although I love appropriately super high abv in many imperial stouts because of the added body and complexity, I do appreciate the fact that I don’t have to get hammered to drink this one.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Did someone put beer in my bourbon. Seriously, the bourbon barrel aging is the story in the delicious Imperial Stout. It pours like maple syrup, very dark with minimal deep tan foam. The aroma is all oak barrel bourbon. The initial taste reminds me of single barrel bourbon mixed with a good old Guiness Stout. The effervescence just tickles the roof of the mouth. The full flavor of the roasted hops comes through, but can’t overcome the smoked barrel bourbon with a hint of vanilla. The bottle claims chocolate, but I tasted burnt toffee and roasted pecans. The after-taste is a lingering sense of the same with a bit more pronounced bourbon. Damn fine brew. Gonna go get a case and put in the cellar.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cracking this one. Maybe 2013. Probably a way to tell from the bottle bit whatever. Big bourbon alcohol oak and vanilla flavors. Base beer is a little light and over powered by the barrel. Soy sauce as it warms. Molasses and a medium sweetness.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle with just over a year on it. Pours thick and opaque black only slightly translucent on the rim with an espresso crema head. Nose of molasses, dark roast malts, dark cocoa, light vanilla, dark dried fruits. Taste follows, warming as it goes down. Incredibly brew for ’only’ 8.5%

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Shared bomber poured to snifters, displaying a black/brown hue, with a bubbly layer of brownish tan head foam, and spotty lacing. The nose was expressive, roasted mocha notes, dark caramel sweetness, vanilla bean, and lurking bourbon. The taste was similar, including moderate bitterness that was roasted, earthy, and slightly tannic, some warmth, and added, deScriptive notes of chocolate cherry & sweet treacle. Quite a full flavored nature for only a medium body, low carbonation, and moderate abv. Impressed!
