COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The sweet character in this beer comes from lactose sugar added into the kettle and residual sugars left over after fermentation is complete. Roasted grains with chocolate, caramel, and coffee flavors are the flagship tastes with the sweetness uniting these flavors together to give a full-bodied, creamy ale with a smooth finish. This is a dark, deep, black colored ale with thick brown foam.

An average milk stout with a chocolate and coffee taste. Finishes with a touch of sweetness. The label is what really makes it worth buying.

Tap at the brewpub. Deep near black body with garnet at the edges. A light khaki head on top. Strongly roasted coffee nose with green beans. There is also some milk chocolate. The taste is like sweet grapes and green apple. There is also a strong sweet coffee finish. This would be good except for the green apple as CanIHave4Beers said about it last year.

Pours a deep black with a good head and some lace. The aroma is some burnt sugar and caramel with some roastiness and some odd kind of green apple infection. The flavor is more odd green apple with some toastiness and a nice sweetness. There are some coffee tones in there as well. This is basically perfectly balanced and would be exemplary for the style if it weren’t for the odd green apple flavor that really gets in the way of all the nice things going on here.

Had this one on draught at the brewpub in Ames, Iowa. Clear, dark reddish brown pour with a thick, foamy tan head, soy sauce and chocolate malts in the nose, bitter chocolate throughout, especially in the finish, with some cherry and sweet coffee, a milky, smooth finish. Excellent.

Draft at El Bait Shop in Des Moines, IA. Poured a clear dark brown color. Head was thick and light tan with good retention and lacing. Distinct milk chocolate aroma with a similar flavor. Sweet on the tongue with a smooth mouth feel.
