COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
One word: Chocoliciousness. Brewed with a healthy dose of chocolate malt, this ale is rich and smooth. Copious amounts of semi-sweet Bavarian chocolate are then tempered and added to this brew, infusing it with and even more intense chocolate aroma and flavor – perfect for dessert! (or breakfast, or lunch, or a snack…).

Tap at brewery. This really surprised me. I thought that maybe they were actually tapping Southern Tier’s Chokalat. I have never had anything worth drinking from this place, but this beer was very good. Deep brown milk chocolate pour with no head. Aromas of chocolate and lightly burnt malt. The flavors were slight lactose, sweet chocolate and burnt malts. If they are capable of brewing this it makes me wonder why the rest of their beers are so poor.

on tap-thin tan-dk brown. A-chocolate syrup. A-chocolate syrup/tar-dk malt, some earthy hops.

[On-tap at Olde Main] Pours dark brown with a small, lasting light brown head. Aroma is straight up chocolate truffle. Taste is much better than last time. Doesn’t come off as sweet, artificial chocolate syrup like it previously has. Still dominated by chocolate, with some roasted malt mixed in. Medium-thin mouthfeel. Smooth. Overall, much, much better than last time. What I had last year was hardly drinkable, but this was quite nice. Very one-dimensional, but enjoyable, and similar to a liquid chocolate truffle.

This beer is really pretty decent, but still nothing much to it. I like some more complexity.

Growler @ KC Biermeisters HB competition. This beer is all chocolate but it isn’t cheap chocolate. Very sweet, very strong cocoa as well. The underneath beer is sweet malts to add to the sweet dessert beer character. No off flavors, just a sweet adjunct beer.

On tap at El Bait Shop during the 2009 Crescent Moon Des Moines Trip. Pours black with a nice off white head. This might be the most intense chocolate flavor that I’ve ever had in a beer. Completely out of bounds. Huge chocolate aroma and a huge chocolate flavor. This is an unexpectedly fantastic beer.

eeeeh Pours a deep dark brown almost black. Smells of hershey’s syrup, very sweet aroma. Tasted like hershey’s syrup! Not my thing at all.

on draft. smells like hot chocolate, tastes like hot chocolate, only roasted. Hot chocolate roasted on an open fire? Delicious with a smooth palate. Dark, dark brown with light beige head. Very tasty, not a run-of-the-mill chocolate porter.
