Silphium (2009), Lansing, Michigan, USA May 8, 2006 On tap at Olde Peninsula. Deep murky red-brown body, thin-medium tight light tan head. Intensely winey, berry-like sweet body, boozy, with abundant citric hops in both the nose and flavor. Alcohol is warming but pairs nicely with the candied fruits and caramel. Reminds me a bit of Founders Devil Dancer but sweeter and a bit less rindy. More of a barleywine than a double IPA with the huge malt backbone, but I’m certainly not complaining.
