Pours black. Roasty and mocha in the nose. Good balance of chocolate, coffee and maltiness. Clean finish from what must be a nice amount of hops. Almost a sweet stout IMO. Not that their other brews are not good, but this is far and away the best. Enjoy playing darts or the golden tee and having a few of these. A bigger beer that it might seem, after three or four the 6% abv starts kicking in. Usually knock down to the brown or pumpkin or red after a couple.

On tap at Olde Peninsula brewpub. Dark brown with thin brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee and light chocolate. Taste of coffee, dark and roasted malts, chocolate. Mild bitter finish. Probably their best offering.

The look: Black body with a small tan head.
In long: Medium body with a medium roastiness level and a medium-high sweetness level. There are some dark fruits flavours but not much. Actually there is more black liquorice flavours than dark fruits. Carbonation is a little bit too aggressive. The are hops in there but the syrupy sweetness overwhelms them. Body is surprisingly sticky. A 10oz was more than enough and that’s not a good sign for that type of beer. Not bad but I can’t imagine myself drinking this all night which is what a beer like that should do. I’ll say this, this Midnight Stout was as close as it could be from a fantastic Stout… a few blocks away is Bell’s Eccentric Café with the Bell’s Expedition Stout.

Now this is a nice brew. Barley and oats with chocolate malts and a bit of coffee coming in at the end.

Tasted 4/26/08. Sampler from the brewpub. Dark brown and opaque hue. Clinging head. Roasty nose. Touch molassis and coffee. Medium bodied and smooth malts. Low to medium acidity. Good flavor. Solid!
