3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear copper/amber with a medium off-white head, modest retention and lace. Rich bready malt aromas with caramel, toast and toffee notes. Mild caramel sweetness offset with a gentle hop kick, accompanied by a flavorful spiciness. Medium body, generous carbonation, creamy/sticky mouthfeel, and a very clean and crisp finish.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A clear amber body with an off white head that had mild retention and nice lacing. Caramel malts and spicy hops on the aroma. Flavor was similar, but with a nice bitterness in the after taste. Smooth finish. Well balanced all around. Good beer.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
On draught at Silk’s Saratoga Bistro at Albany Airport. Pours a deep copper color with a lasting tan head. Slight malty aroma dampened due to cold serving temperature. Medium body with full mouthfeel. Noticable texture. Dry, almost "toasted" malty flavor, rich and nice. Underlying hop bitterness throughout. Great flavor combinations.

Red-brown with small off white head. Aroma grainy malt and hint of caramel. Medium-light body. Flavor is mildly sweet, malty, not complex or anything but overall this is a reasonable beer.

Hope Devil Grill, NY tap ($6): Pours a light muddy amber with an off-white head. Aroma is caramel malt with a hint of citrus. Taste is slightly malty. Body is watery. Finish is lemon soap. This ain’t bad, but if I didn’t rate this right now, I would forget it.

Cate’s Italian Garden in Bolton Landing, N.Y., on June 26, 2012. Draft into pint glass. Two fingers of white foamy head when I got it. Red amber color. Good retention of lacing.
Smelled lots of malts right away. Also caramel and toffee. Some sweet sugary notes.
Tasted close to the nose. Got the caramel and toffee. Lots of overwhelming malts.
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Slightly bitter abrupt finish.
Not a bad beer overall. I was surprised that Mendocino made it. I came a long way to try Mendocino.

12oz bottle in a lager glass. Pours copper with a fluffy, cream-colored head. Aroma of caramel and a little bit of cereal from the malts, plus a little bit of floral hops. Flavor about the same. Average texture. An ok beer.

I’m not a lager fan, but given a freebie I’ll be as honest as possible....poured an almost chestnut brown with a thin head......a fair amount of maltiness for a lager, with a well pronounce mouthfeel.....a pleasant surprise in the lager world

I, like many, wasn’t expecting much when I first had this brew, but I was pleasantly surprised. A year-round marzen/october, Saratoga Lager is a solid, drinkable beer that pours a nice brown with decent head retention, has caramel and malt in the nose, and that sports some easy-drinking maltiness in the taste. No, this isn’t world-class, but it is good enough that I had a keg of it in my keg fridge for a little while, and I wouldn’t shrug away the possibility of another in the future.
