3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Bacchanalia, Cambridge. The pour’s deep brown with a tight, medium tan head. The nose is mild cocoa and whipped cream. Smooth milk chocolate syrup. Hints of roasted coffee and grain, a bit of black raspberry fruits. The taste is dry roasted coffee. Earthy ash and charred wood. Hints of bitter chocolate and red fruits. Nicely balanced, rich flavors for the low ABV. A bit watery on the palate, but still quite smooth and creamy. Overall, this is actually pretty good. A nice stout that leans to the dry side.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival in May 2008. Cask, gravity dispense. Dull black in colour with a dark tan coloured head. Rich roast grain notes in the long, intense aroma. Smooth oily mouthfeel and poor lacing throughout. Dark malts give a bitter coffee and plain chocolate base with soft sweet plummy jam notes evident. Strong prickle of earthy hop resins give a dry bitter aftertaste, long in intensity. Finish is malty smooth and dry with almonds present in the mouth. A really good session stout and highly recommended.

Gravity cask at the Bree Louise, London. Pours a slightly cloudy, brown-black with a small, filmy head. Dark malts on the nose, roast, tar and rubber, hints of cocoa. Flavor is lightly sweet, some nice roasted malts, slight cocoa, hints of coffee beans, slight minerality, light peat. Light to medium in body with soft carbonation. Mild dryness to finish, more pleasing roasted malts, some mocha, dirt and peat. Not too bad!
