4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This stout is inky black in colour with a thin mouthfeel. Nothing thin about the taste, though. This has a fine roasted taste that deserves another pint.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Gravity cask at the Bree Louise, London. Pours a slightly cloudy, brown-black with a small, filmy head. Dark malts on the nose, roast, tar and rubber, hints of cocoa. Flavor is lightly sweet, some nice roasted malts, slight cocoa, hints of coffee beans, slight minerality, light peat. Light to medium in body with soft carbonation. Mild dryness to finish, more pleasing roasted malts, some mocha, dirt and peat. Not too bad!

Gravity cask at the Bree Louise in London. Very pretty black pour with tan head that rises very nicely. A ring of carbonation from the edges of the pint glass, stunning. Roast dark coffee, oatmeal. Smooth and tart. Very nice, flavorful

Cask@Bedford BF. This was quite tasty. Full mouthfeel, and rich with flavour, yet quite soft at the same time. Beautiful dark choc, coco and roasted bitterness, a bit salty in the finish. Yum.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very dark brown colour with a reddish tinge - almost opaque. heavy mocha coffee aroma. Much the same on the palate with some burnt malt and chocolate. Marginally undermined by a slightly weak mouthfeel but, otherwise, very nice indeed. Cask (gravity dispense), Bedford Beer Festival 2004.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Bacchanalia, Cambridge. The pour’s deep brown with a tight, medium tan head. The nose is mild cocoa and whipped cream. Smooth milk chocolate syrup. Hints of roasted coffee and grain, a bit of black raspberry fruits. The taste is dry roasted coffee. Earthy ash and charred wood. Hints of bitter chocolate and red fruits. Nicely balanced, rich flavors for the low ABV. A bit watery on the palate, but still quite smooth and creamy. Overall, this is actually pretty good. A nice stout that leans to the dry side.
