Editor's note: Brewed by Ølfabrikken at Het Anker, Mechelen, Belgium.

Ølfabrikken Abbey Ale is our interpretation of the dark and strong ales brewed in the Belgian monasteries. A more than hundred year old yeast strain provides the beer with notes of raisins and prunes supplemented by a discrete spicy aroma from coriander. The flavor is big and vinous and dominated by caramel. Enjoy it with braised meat, game and ripe cheese. Of course unpasteurized, unfiltered and refermented in the bottle.

Browish, major spice involved here. Carmel & fruit, a good dubbel. I would recommend it

God øl, der smager af belgisk ale, dog lidt mere syrlig. En dejlig nem øl at drikke.

Serving: 750 ml. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a murky reddish brown with a sizeable light tan head. The nose is rich with dried dates and figs. The flavor is sweet with notes of Fig Newtons, dried apple, caramel, and dates. The abundant carbonation helps lighten the sweetness a bit. Medium to full bodied with a sweet, malty finish. Nice brew.

75 cl bottle vintage 2006 @ Beer Hunter’s. Produced 30.11.2006, BB3 01/2012
Aroma is very sweet with raisins, sugar, plums and malt. Flavour has raisins, plums, sugar, toffee and some malt. Too sticky and sweet – even after six years. Closer to a Barley Wine than Abbey Dubbel.

Pours hazy reddish with white head thanks to Aaron for the bottles! Aroma has notes of toffee, caramel, nice raisin, and some slight grape notes as well, hints of biscuit. Taste is a bit watery, with notes of raisin, toffee, sweet biscuit and caramel, hints of grass but really pretty sweet, finishes sweet.
