23rd October 2009 Cloudy red brown beer with thick frothy biscuit coloured head. Nose of malt and wet dog! Creamy malt head leads to a softish palate. Strong aged malt with traces of chocolate. Some well repressed hops and a little aniseed. A well rounded and fullsome barleywine.

(Bottle) Pours dark brown with hazy, red highlight. Small sand-coloured head. The aroma holds matured malty, vinous, and fruity notes of wine gums, dry caramel, fudge, complex grainy notes, cheese, woodsy dried fruits, wood, old floral nectar, apricot marmalade and jam. Lots of personality on the nose. The flavor is light to medium sweet, light to medium bitter and light acidic. Vinous, fruity, berry-like, liquor, light caramel, grain, woodsy alcohol, fruits, some dried fruits and old hops. The mouthfeel is sticky and round, yet somewhat tight with a light carbonation. Caramelly, woodsy and vinous finish. Medium to full bodied.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Ughsmash (6670) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 18, 2010
25cL bottle, BB 10/2/12. Poured a lovely shade of deep amber with an easily-resuscitated beige head. The aroma was strong, but held in check by biscuit and fruity sweetness.. just a hint of old brandy barrel accented.. warm, with peppery alcohol on the back of the nose.. warmth brought out some berries. The flavor found caramel and molasses to join the biscuits at the core.. not much bitterness to note, but there was light fruit skin tartness that hit on the middle and carried through the finish.. berries again on the back-end.. residual sugars masked most of the boozage. Medium-plus bodied with just the right amount of carbonation on the palate.. the sourness worked fairly well in there.. decent, warming barley wine.
