COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Near Ølfabrikken is a field with 1000 raspberry plants carrying a late sort of small and very flavorful raspberries. Once a year we pick the raspberries and throw them into a single brew. Due to The harvest 2005 was characterized by more rain and colder weather than usual, which meant than the berries was more tart than usual and even more complex in flavor. We decided that the base beer should be complex and sweet to match the berries. The resulting beer made from seven different malts, three different sugars, five different hops and a Belgian ale yeast provides a huge body and complexity matching the raspberries. Ølfabrikken Dekadence 2005 is of course unpasteurized, unfiltered and bottle conditioned like all of our beers.

[Bottled. Marsiblursi delivers] Shady redbrown colour. Wild raspberries dominates the aroma - fantastic aroma really. Thick mouthfeel with clear alcohol notes and wild raspberries. Almond paste is there as always when it’s about strong fruit beers.

Clearly underrated. Bottle. This one is amazing. The label says 13%, but you dont taste it. Heavy aroma and taste of bitter sweet raspberries. Full palate. Way to go Christian.

(Bottle, thanks to Marsiblursi) Sampled at a tasting night at Marsiblursi’s place. Shady pink to red color, small pink to tan head. Intense sweet raspberry scent. Smells like raspberry jam with a hint of almond paste. Very nice smell! Sweet sirupy taste with warming alcohol, long sweet aftertaste. Smooth yogurt mouthfeel with a sweet finish. Medium bitterness.

Raspberry flavour. Tart, a bit sourish and dry from the berries but also a bit sweet. Undertones of fruit, caramel and allmond paste, Lingering raspberry aftertaste with some alcohol. Medium body.

Bottled. Opaque brown with a small creamy white head. Sweet and quite one-dimensional aroma of raspberryjam. Sweet flavour of over-riped raspberries, caramel, sugar and alcohol in a big body. Kong fruity finish of raspberries, mild licorice, almonds and alcohol.

Unclear mahogany with a short lived, off-white head. Raspberry completely dominates the aroma. Complex flavour, with acid from the berries, dry licorice and wood and a hint of alcohol. Entering these notes several months after tasting it at the beer festival (where I had no idea how strong it was or anything - Christian just said it was a nice new beer I had to try), I suddenly feel an urge to spend an awful lot of money getting a couple bottles to re-experience that flavour. Pricey, but on the other hand - decadence knows no price.

Ølfestival Horsens 2006. A brown beer with a red hue and a bubly head. The aroma signals a lot of raspberries. The flavour is moderately sweet, and has a lot of raspberries, a little alcohol and a nice hint of berryacidity. A very fine beer. 1667

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2007 50 cL bottle. Pours deep amber with short lasting white/brown head. Aroma is very dominated by raspberry with some caramel notes. Taste is strange at the first sip, seems totally out of balance between the raspberry and caramel malt - but it is improved along the way - alcohol is extremely well hidden. Caramel out and raspberry on it’s own would be the traditional way to make this kind of lambic - but it works in it’s own way. Too expensive by the way. Bitterness in the finish is clearly from raspberry alone.

From tap at Ølbaren at Jannik and Bagers afskedsreception: clearly more balanced and soft after 2 years. There is a very minor note of both liqourice and sulphor, but most noticeable is that the raspberry taste that has become quite softly blended with the caramel flavour. Ver nice.

Bottle:

Nice bordeaux red colour, but the head dissapears a little quick. The aroma is a huge amount of raspberries and an easy amount of alcohol. Nice balanced raspberry taste, not as obvious, undistinct or artificial as in many other fruit brews. Incredible hidden alcohol when thinking about it has an ABV of 13%. The alcohol makes the sourness more indistinct and contributes to a more natural raspberry taste. Not the best body for a 13% beer, but the best fruit beer I have had. Still not worth 96 kr, though. (about 17 $)
