COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An Ølfabrikken guest brew. For the third time we have invited one of our colleagues to come by and do any brew he or she would like. Gunnhild Kolvereid Brewmaster at Brewpub Copenhagen has made a sour brown ale brewed with a normal Belgian ale yeast as well as brettanomyces, pediococcus and lactic acid bacteria. The beer has been matured on french oak and sour cherries and bottle conditioned for six moths before release. It is bottled with brettanomyzes which provides the beer with a nice sparkle underscoring the refreshing sourness. Unpasteurized, unfiltered and bottle conditioned like all of our beers.

(Bottle, 0.375 l - Batch #237 - BBE 1/1/2016, at Pikkulintu, 20111209) The beer poured reddish brown and cloudy. Its head was small and white. Aroma had cherries, sourness, wood and malts. Palate was medium bodied and dry with quite high carbonation. Flavours were wood, cherries, sourness, mild sweetness and very low bitterness. Aftertaste was woody, sour and bitter. Very good oud bruin and it had kept carbonation and aged very well.

Pours a hazy dark chocolate brown color with dark murky golden orange hues and a half finger off white head that slowly fades into a lasting ring. Spotty lacing ledt behind. Funky, earthy aroma with a strong barrel presence. Lots if earthy oak with a touch of vanilla. Acetic with a vinegar and barnyard presence. Lots of cherry along with other day berries and a surprising malt presence. Slightly funky, vinegary flavor with a puckering tart mouthfeel. Lots of sour cherry and earthy oak with a strong malty character underneath. Vinegary acetic acid in the finish. Decently balanced with some complexity but not as sour and/or flavorful as I expected.

(plastic corked bottle with agraffe, 37.5cl, courtesy of Papsoe – thanks!) Cloudy, murky amber golden colour with a reddish shine and a short off-white foamy layer. Acidic fruity and slightly malty aroma with almondy and woody notes and distinctively notes of Brett. Moderately sour flavour, medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Slightly lactic malty and cherry-fruity taste with an oaky touch and notes of barnyard/Brett; acidic fruity, slightly vinous and dark malty finish, which does not pair too well imo. 29.VI.10
