COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is our September 2005 Special Ale.
It is a strong version of our Brown Ale with an extra load of hops. Eight weeks of maturation rounds of the flavors and integrate the hoppiness with the chocolate and caramel notes from the malt profile. Dry hopping with whole flower Centennial hops directly in each cask provides some extra punch.
Ølfabrikken India Brown is, of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and cask conditioned like all of our beers. Only available on tap.

Bottle. Nice head with good duration. Color is brown. Aroma and taste are roast malt and lots of hops.

Swing top bottle. Pours a quite hazy deep brown colour with a very nice big steady long lasting creamy beige head leaving a very good thick coat of a lacing. Fresh hoppy and fruity flowery aroma. Good smooth mouthfeel. The flavour is sweet and dry with a good comfortable hoppiness, caramel, ripe fruits, toasted malt and with a slight chocolate touch in the dry fruity finish.

Had some expectations that thisone should be as Nøgne Ø # 100, but less can do it. Notes of "brown ale", fruits, flowers, hops, dried fruits, spices and not so much hops as expected, but an ok beer is it indeed.

Dark brown with a fully lasting white head & fine lacings. Aroma is clearly of centennial hops. Medium bodied brew with a good malty balance from sweet malts. I like their regular brown ale for its hoppiness - this is just a bit hoppier. Nice!

UPDATED: NOV 26, 2007 Dark brown with a thick and creamy head. Aroma of grape, citrus, cucumber, hay, perfume and smoke. The flavour is unbalanced with an ever present grape note, spice, smoke, caramel acidity and alcohol - the malt base is hard to find. It’s much more indian than brown.

0.5 l bottle, 7.5 %. Dark amber color with thick head. Strong fresh and flowery hop aroma with pine, lemon and mango. Also hint of plastic in the aroma. Sweet and hoppy flavor with flowery and piney hops as well as some sharp alcohols. Piney finish. The brown ale character is hidden by hops.

Brown with an amber hue, and lasting small off-white head. Aroma is a perfect mix of the two parts of the name: Some toffee and biscuit malt, and an equal amount of citrus and pine hops. Rich and malty flavour with a superb balance of bitterness and hop flavour. I thought I rated it in 2005 (as my first Ølfabrikken rating) but I guess I never entered the rating - however the new bottled version lives up to my wildest dreams of balance.

Bottle, bought at Bach’s in Aabenraa. I has walked past this brew on several occasion, now I am amazed how and why!

The liquid is a nice dense muddy nut-brown - just able to see through it, but nothing more. The head is small, but perfectly formed, quite creamy and has a yellowish hue to it. It also leaves plenty of lacing, all the way to the bottom of the glass. Aroma is dominated by flowery and fruity hops, but has a little caramel in the background. A great mouthfeel, expanding and creamy in my mouth. An extremely well-rounded taste follows. Loads of sweet caramel is balanced perfectly by a heavy dose of citric, flowery and fruity hops. Never drying out, it maintains a general freshness throughout. Hidden in the flavour are tones of chocolate, yeast and vanilla.

Draught at Lord Nelson, Copenhagen
Cloudy dark amber color. The aroma shows fruity hops. The body is not very strong, with more caramel than an IPA but with a very good hopping; in the end there is a trace of roasted malt (or coffee). I would enjoy more with more malt and sweetness, but it’s still very good.
