3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 CaptainCougar (7093) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - MAR 12, 2007Bottle sampled on 8/5/06, thanks to sk8viking: Pours a nearly opaque dark mahogany with a dark tan wispy-lacing head. Has a sweet dark caramel mocha aroma with a touch of earthy dry hops. Body starts with a mild, bitter, citric tartness, turning into a more roasty and dark chocolatey finish. Could use a little more body and sweetness without the mild tartness, otherwise a nice beer.

Bottle @ home birthday gift from Faroeviking... Thanks my friend! ... vintage 2007... It pours pitch black with a small bubbly tan head... the aroma is coffee beans and chocolate... The flavor is thin waterish, coffee and actually nothing else...

Carbonation. Roasted malty notes. Sweet dry taste and a oily finish. Still well balanced. Maybe SOD's grandfather.

Deep brown beer with almost no head. Aroma is a bit strange. Wet damp malts, some dark malty character, light coffee aroma and a bit of oxidized leather. Musty and dank and pretty shitty really. Not very good at all.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Dickinsonbeer (5075) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - MAY 2, 2009
.5 liter bottle. Pours a deep dark brownish black with a foamy beige head and some sticky lace. Aroma is chocolate and coffee yogurt, with some weird crayon, waxy esters- cetyl ester-like, and palm-oily with hints of nutty roasted charred chocolate. Flavor is very chocolate with dirty yeast, almost salty oxidation with leather that makes it tasted like a wet dog! Chocolate and harsh roast in the end with a bit more esters and wax. Probably past its prime- not sure if this would have been good fresh though.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 PilsnerPeter (3019) - Flushing, New York, USA - APR 27, 2009
Bottle: Weird waxy aroma (phenols?) with a chocolate note underneath. Some sulfuric notes as well (lit match). Slick body with a weird flavor. Waxy, plasticy phenolics, stale tobacco, burning candle and papery notes. I’m not sure if this bottle was a victim of oxidation or what, but this stuff was off.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Boutip (3971) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - APR 22, 2009
Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color ale with a small dark brown bubbly head with minimal retention and no lacing. Aroma of dry coffee with light roasted malt notes. Taste is a well balanced mix between some roasted malt with notes of dry coffee. Body has an oily texture with low carbonation and a nice creamy texture. Bottle has some age on it but still very drinkable with great notes of coffee.
