4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Nocturne (391) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - DEC 30, 2012
Swingtop bottle brought back from BarleyWine in Copenhagen. The lady in the shop thought this was about seven years old. It pours out a dark amber and manages to form a head for a few seconds. The aroma is vinous, spirit-like, fruity like port or brandy. Lots of raisins, dates, brown sugar, toffee and peat. Maybe a hint of cardboard creeping through as well. Most of those elements crop up in the taste, but it’s only once I get down to the dregs that sour cherries come out. Quite a slick mouthfeel on this like a vintage barley wine. Has held up nicely!

1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 arminjewell (4205) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - OCT 27, 2011
Pour is hazy reddish with off white head, aroma has notes of cough syrup, some slight slight sour cherry pit, some slight biscuit, toffee, but really a lot of medicinal cherry. Taste is really harsh medicine with some sour cherry, I tasted this and shivers went down my spine and I couldn’t drink any more. Tastes like gross cherry, cough syrup, touch of biscuit, finishes with more cherry.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Koelschtrinker (8610) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - JUN 10, 2011
Etwas alkoholischer, deutlich fruchtiger Geruch.
