80 deibel cork pop, but fortunately no gusher.
Very dark maroon color, medium tan fine bubble head that lasts forever; delicate lacing.
Aroma of dark fruits and caramel, and evident alcohol.
Flavor begins with ripe cherries and dates, and a bit of nutmeg. Lots of malt. Nicely complex and interesting.
Delicious winter brew.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark ruby brown color with a tall frothy tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, yeast and licorice. Tastes primarily of dark fruit-cherry with some sourness, licorice, and yeast. Just a touch of bitterness mixes easily with the sweetness. Quite enjoyable.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Clear mahogany, long lasting rich creamy tan head, excellent lacing.
Aroma is yeasty, some licorice, cherries, light alcohol, lots of dark fruits.
Flavour is of dark fruits, lots of licorice, yeast, alcohol is noticable at times, sweetness starts to come through.
Yeasty mouth, med/light body, high carb.
Finishes with lots of liquorice, yeast, sweet with some alcohol.
It’s okay but it is hurting because of the lack of body. The spices are nice but it left me wanting more.
750ml bottle purchased at Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York.
Opened on August 15, 2009.

Cork hit the ceiling as the bottle opened. Hazy deep orange body topped by a huge brown head. Bubble gum on the nose. Sweet and sour in the mouth with a soft syrupy feel. Medium to full body.

Good beer, I like. I found the taste of orange, nuts, caramel and other good christmas tasting. The color was russet, really nice. I could drink this beer each year at christmas.

28-NOV-2009, bottle @home.
Brown, nice light brown head.
Weak nose, belgian inspired. Very creamy, nice carbonation.
Brown sugar, roasted, not strong although it is 9,5%.
First time I tasted this two years ago, I was much more impressed. Well, it is still a very nice beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
From 2007 on tap at Ølbaren.
Pours hazy and reddish/brown with a creamy tan head.
Aroma is sweet and hoppy with malty notes.
Flavour is noway near my expectations - smokey, hoppy and a little caramel sweet with dark fruits in the back. It ends in a bitter sweet after taste.

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml corked bottle and served in my Big Karmeliet glass:
Pours a hazy chestnut brown hue topped by a large rocky light beige head which left clinging lacework upon the glassware. The aroma smells like the holidays with rich cherry, fig, and fruitcake. Hint of cardamom, ginger, anise blend with roasted and toffee malts. Even a quick hint of herbal hops and earthy salty notes as well on the nose.
The taste pretty accurately reflected the aromas with a mix of spice overlaid rich sweet malts and a mild fruity background. There is a slightly sea salt note around the edges before a pop of alcohol comes forth to cleanse the palate. Unfortunately the alcohol is too brash for the framework of the beer and begins to wear the palate down long before the bottle (or even glass) is near completion. The mouth feel is lively enough and counteracts a sticky medium to full-bodied nature of the brew. Perhaps aging would calm down the effects of the alcohol but I have my doubts. Still, all in all a solid brew that meets my expections of a strong holiday ale.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
In short: A very sweet, toasted and slightly spicy ale. Ok for what it is.
How: Bottle. Age unknown but probably recent. Tasting session with Montreal crew.
The look: Cloudy brown body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose is spicy and toasted. Taste sweet, spicy, slightly fruity and kind of here and there. Crusty brownies, some spices, strange berry-like fruitiness, brown sugar, caramel. Something astringent that I cannot word. I cannot say it wasn’t good, it was pretty decent, but it is another of those “different” beer where it’s just a bunch of flavour elements that do not necessarily complement each other. Overall sensation like an incomplete beer, a work in progress. Not bad but it felt as amateurish and also as spicy as the movie Six Degrees Of Penetration.
