COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: Has also been brewed at Bryggeriet S.C. Fuglsang and Nøgne Ø in Grimstad, Norway
Introduced at ’Fynske Øldage’ 2005.

English: A dark and rich porter inspired by the Baltic porters traditionally made in Scandinavia. Roasted without being burned or bitter, with the flavor dominated by dried fruits and vinous notes. High amounts of residual sugars and a fruity aroma makes this beer the perfect companion for chocolate desserts, if served lightly chilled. Brewed on Maris Otter ale malt, British Brown Malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, two types of caramel malt and brown sugar.

Oily black body with airy tan head. Rich earthy aroma, cacao, some nuts. Taste adds some nutmeg and other spicy flavours. Slight metallic twange. Overal, a very well balanced beer with some unique, subtle flavours for the style

Bottle thanks to the Dood! Pours dark brown with a light brown head that is thin but remains throughout the beer. Aroma has nice deep roasted malts with some dark grains and a bit of dryness. Flavor has rich roasted malts and dark grains with a touch of bitter chocolate and dryness.

UPDATED: AUG 29, 2013 9/VIII/13 - 50cl BOTTLE @ De Hopduvel - BB: 25/IV/13 (that’s about just in time, in my books) (2013-703) Thanks to Bobochamp for sharing the bottle!

Clear deep brown beer, irregular creamy small beige to brown head, bit adhesive, little stable. Aroma: lots of acaramel, alcohol, mocha, bit smoky, bit of dried fruits, cocoa powder, little dusty, coffee powder. MF: soft carbon, full body, bit oily texture. Taste: surprisingly sourish start, lots of coffee, cocoa powder, some caramel, sour red berries. Aftertaste: caramel, coffee, some citrus, hints of vanilla and some smoke, cooca powder, more coffee, dry hop bitterness and burnt toast in the end.

May 2010. From bottle. Dark roasted malt, hops, chocolate and caramel aromas. Color is very dark brown to almost black. Thick sugary flavors with some licorice showing through on the finish.

I must have had a bad bottle because this Porter didn;t wow me like it wowed others. In fact, I thought it was average at best as far as beer goes, and below average for a porter. The pour is nice dark brown (I matched it against some coal I have and it certainly failed to be jet black) with a brown head. The aroma was weak chocolate, weak coffee, and noticeable alcohol (a no-no in a 7.5% beer). Flavour is all over the place, a little coffee, a little chocolate, a little licorice, and a little vanilla, but nothing stood out as being supreme.

Ancient review, had this backlogged gem with Annie and Dad in August of 2010. Poured pitch black with medium sized beige head. Aromas were caramel, smoke, brown sugar, dark chocolate, honey and creamy malt. Flavor was most of the same with dark fruit and chocolate roast coming out. Body was medium to full. One of the best.

Bottle (which has crossed the Atlantic twice), shared @Bruces. It pours dark brown with a medium tan head. The nose is earth, roasted malt, caramel, toast, bubblegum, faint smoke and coffee. The taste is soft, roasty, smooth, ashy, salted caramel, toast, touch of oxidation, umami aspect, cocoa powder and earth with a dry, roasty finish. Medium-full body and fine carbonation. Smooth, well balanced and very drinkable indeed. Great stuff.

Aroma: Caramel, chocolate, coffee, liquorice and roasty malt. Also some hops is hiding in there and is most easily recognized just after pouring. Appearance: Dark brown/black color with a beautiful frothy, tanned head, which I’d wish lasted just a bit longer to enjoy :-) Taste: medium to heavy sweetness, lightly bitter, and a little salty. I don’t think it’s going too sweet in spite of it’s weighty sweetness. Palate: medium body, something in-between slick and thick. Average carbonation and a short bitter but long, salty and chocolate-like finish. Nice! A delicate beer to enjoy on it’s own or with some dessert like chocolate or ice cream.

Black beer with a tan head and pretty thick lacing. Smells pretty fresh and bitter with coffee and hoppy bitterness. A hidden dark chocolate as well. Taste is great; Chocolaty malts, burned sugar, roasted coffee and again this bitterness from the hops.. I think i will pick one for aging, since the thickness in the palate would suit some aging pretty well. Good stuff!
