Commercial Description:
Editor’s note: Recent canned batches of this have been brewed at Bryggeriet S.C. Fuglsang and Harboe.
The first batch of this beer destined for export to the US market was brewed at Nøgne Ø in Grimstad, Norway in 2006. Later batches have been brewed at Ølfabrikken.
Introduced at ’Fynske Øldage’ 2005.

A dark and rich porter inspired by the Baltic porters traditionally made in Scandinavia. Roasted without being burned or bitter, with the flavor dominated by dried fruits and vinous notes. High amounts of residual sugars and a fruity aroma makes this beer the perfect companion for chocolate desserts, if served lightly chilled. Brewed on Maris Otter ale malt, British Brown Malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, two types of caramel malt and brown sugar. Unpasteurized and unfiltered like all our beers of course.

Bottle. Pours a rich oily black with a velvety brown soft fluffy head. Permeating aromas of V.S.O.P. brandy, baking chocolate, and Guatemalan coffee. Creamy smoothness. Perfect amount of carbonation on the palate. Very rich pronounced flavors. Dark chocolate, fine muscat wine, black walnuts, small touch of ginger, black treacle, dried mission figs. Ultra rich, luxurious and thoroughly satisfying. Outstanding! Heartbreaking news of the new brewery ownership.

Pours like an Impy stout, nice red/brown head too. Aroma is malt and coffee. I get some charcol flavors as well. Flavors are well balanced with coffee and chocolate. I get some dark fruit going down with a somewhat dry finish. Very enjoyable for the colder season.

Pours a mysterious deep brown, no....make that black with a small brown head. Aroma of Coffee, chocolate, rasins, smoke, malt. Has a nice mouthfeel and the flavors of Roasted Barley, Coffee and Chocolate dance around on your taste buds. This is a fantastic porter. Too bad about the brewery takeover situation as I don’t see the new owners maintaining this level of quality.

Wow, monster beer. Pours black black black. Thin dark head. Lots going on in the aroma. Lots of coffee and chocolate, a little sweet. Hangs in your mouth forever, but in a good way. A little bitter on the finish, but really makes itself known. A hint of raisins on the backend? Good stuff.

Really dark, like an IS, reddish brown head, oily looking. Aroma is huge. Coffee, brandy, prunes, chocolate all present. Palate is amazing. Starts sweet, sticky, ends dry and hoppy with a coffee finish. Smooth rich mouthfeel. No alcohol noticed. Very enjoyable.

Pours pitch black with large foamy tan head. The aroma has lots going on. Dark chocolate, caramel, hops, oak some smokyness are all present. The taste is bitter with chocolate and tar. The finish lingers and this is a full bodied beer that takes a while to finish. I would say this seemed much more like a good Imperial stout or Baltic porter than a typical porter. I really liked it.

Wow, looks graet and pours well and the aroma coming off the top is great. The roasted carmel malts and smoky dryness are balanced extremely well. The complex layers and overall harmony of this beer do put it a cut above the rest of this style.

My treat shared with the boys at Steve’s house. Poured deep, dark chocolate brown. Aroma of mocha coffee with roasted malts. Flavour is of a smooth porter beer, chocolate malts with a nice sweet coffeed character. What an awesome beer, I would love to try it from cask/tap.
