COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: Has also been brewed at Bryggeriet S.C. Fuglsang and Nøgne Ø in Grimstad, Norway
Introduced at ’Fynske Øldage’ 2005.

English: A dark and rich porter inspired by the Baltic porters traditionally made in Scandinavia. Roasted without being burned or bitter, with the flavor dominated by dried fruits and vinous notes. High amounts of residual sugars and a fruity aroma makes this beer the perfect companion for chocolate desserts, if served lightly chilled. Brewed on Maris Otter ale malt, British Brown Malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, two types of caramel malt and brown sugar.

Sample from bottle at CBF 2011. Black colour with a creamy tan head. . Aromas of chocolate, coffee, and notes of alcohol. Moderately sweet with roasted malt flavors, coffee, and milk chocolate. the alcohol is pleasant and warming. Only mild bitterness, moderate carbonation. Consistent and perfectly balanced beer. Silky, full mouthfeel, WOW - the best porter I ever had, and the best beer sampled at CBF 2011. Hope that the shitty Harboe Brewery don´t mess this one up.

Bottle at Ølfestivallen 2011: Light brown head, black. Nose with dark chocolate, seet filtercofee and a light fruit. Fat, medium body and a bit short. Taste is bitter chocko and bitter coffee, a bit one dimensional but surprisingly fat

22oz bottle, very sweet aroma, rich chocolate. Very full bodied, chocolate with a back end of nice roastiness. Times alcohol very well, a bit caramel. Delicious.

Awesome brew. This brew packed the punch of a greatly crafted 11 percent brew. The malts on this one is so well made that it is certainly worth the $10 a bottle you will probably pay.

2007 bottle poured into a goblet. The bottle says its 8.0% ABV, the site says 7.5%, close enough. Beer is black and forms a thin broken brown head. Carbonation is a mystery. Some lacing is left on the glass. A slight alcohol in the nose, mostly roast, like strong coffee without the steam. Beer is medium to low in body. A nice sweetness up front followed by a lot of bitterness and roast at the back end that lingers for a long time. No aftertaste but all in all, a clean beer. The roast stays with you but its an extension of the original flavors not something new, something old. Second taste, more midpalate flavors this time, a slight sourness that fades quickly. This beer has been ages for years on the yeast in the bottle a few off flavors could be coming up. Overall the beer is well balanced and really good. Way better than I expected. Drinkability is high. I’d get it again. Serving type: bottle

The beer pours black with a nice tan head, good retention and lacing. The aroma is nice chocolate, coffee, smoke and vanilla. The taste is the same and nothing short of phenominal. It starts off with sweet chocolate, adds some awesome smokiness and finishes with a light taste of vanilla. The feel is super smooth and there is outstanding drinkability. The beer is great, one of my favorites.

Pours a solid black with a decent tan head that sticks around for a while before impaling itself upon the inside walls of my Sam Adams glass. Smells of milk chocolate, brown sugar, roasted grains, a bit of smoked malt as well. Taste is milk chocolate then roasted grains and a huge smoke character followed by some hop and roast bitterness that linger in the finish. Thick motor oil like body, light but ample and appropriate carbonation, creamy and syrupy mouthfeel. Decent porter, but the smokiness of this one was to much for me.

650ml bomber @ Belmont Station. I’ve seen this rated as the #1 Baltic/Imperial Porter for the past couple years, so I had to try it. Poured into a pint glass. Pours a rich, dark brown with a thick, two finger beige head. Aroma is huge blasts of cocoa, earthy coffee, nuts, and roasted malts. Flavor on the forefront (served chilled) is a slightly bitter roasted coffee, dark chocolate, sugary malts, licorice, and dark cherries. After warming up a little, even more flavor bursts out! Intriguing notes of fig, a dark fruitiness, and leather creep up slowly behind the ever-present bitter coffee backbone. Very complex beer! Full-bodied with a velvety smooth mouthfeel. Very much like an imperial stout, but differs in the drinkability and low ABV. I definitely understand the hype on this one. Is it better than XXI in my opinion? No. But Deschutes (as much as I love those guys) proved that they can’t repeat that every year, while Olfabrikken does. There’s a lot to be said for a brewery that can put out something that isn’t THE most mind-blowing beer out there, but it can be consistently great every year. Like Old Raspy. This is one of those outstanding beers that is certain to become legendary. Or maybe not... maybe it’ll stay one of those "best kept secrets", which is fine by me! Either way, I’ll be getting a few more of these for the cellar to see how they taste in years to come! Cheers!

650ml bomber. It pours a dense balck with a nice greyish tan head that sticks for a ncie bit and then receded with not much lacing. the smell is pretty awesome. Just a thick rich, perfect scent for the Baltic porter. It has tons of chocolate, a hint of roastiness, and a hint of intriguing cinnamon. The flavor isn’t as sweet as I was expecting, it is still pretty sweet, but it has a nice roastiness/smokiness that balances the typical sweetness of the style a bit. The main flavors are chocolate and dark fruit. There is almost a woodiness to it as well. The flavor is intense, but I think it could come together just a bit more coherently. It is a nice beer, the flavor could be better, but overall it is enjoyable Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 11-11-2010 00:56:18

Canned version. Black with a big brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee and light smoky. Flavor is rather sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and bitter finish. Excellent porter. 190909
