COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: Has also been brewed at Bryggeriet S.C. Fuglsang and Nøgne Ø in Grimstad, Norway
Introduced at ’Fynske Øldage’ 2005.

English: A dark and rich porter inspired by the Baltic porters traditionally made in Scandinavia. Roasted without being burned or bitter, with the flavor dominated by dried fruits and vinous notes. High amounts of residual sugars and a fruity aroma makes this beer the perfect companion for chocolate desserts, if served lightly chilled. Brewed on Maris Otter ale malt, British Brown Malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, two types of caramel malt and brown sugar.

Incredibly dark brown head settles to a thick, creamy film over an equally impressively dark and dense inky black/brown body. Looks and smells luscious. Aroma is powerful in sweetness and alcohol. Rich chocolate syrup, thick cookie-like malt, green-wood smokiness and hints of dark fruit drowned in a potent punch of Malibu rum. Thick on the palate, soothing on the throat, ending with a slight chalkiness. Wonderful full flavor, intensely chocolatey but not overly sweet... and the alcohol is not as overbearing as I’d expected by the nose. A pleasant burnt bitterness of well-roasted malt reveals in the finish, and the finish lasts a long time. As my glass slowly empties, I detect a slight taste of pencil shavings but that’s really the only thing that detracts from a simply incredible beer. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Cellared for about 2 years, purchased at West Lakeview Liquors, Chicago, IL.

Black color with a tan head with short duration, medium lacing. Aroma with coffee notes, black chocolate, some ashes and roasted mals. Flavor is mild bittery with roasted and toasted malts, black coffee and chocolate, some licorice notes. LIght bitterness in the final with a slightly dry mouthfeel.

Bottle shared by mcbackus. Nose is boozy and chocolate. Pour is almost flat. Taste is also boozy and chocolate. Very sweet. A little warming. Nice.

Bottle share thanks to mcbackus. Bottle roughly 2006 vintage. Deep dark brown, opaque. Sweet, boozy, milk chocolate, roast. More sweet, malty, smooth, boozy, milk chocolate and roasty.

bottle to glass; from trade with a generous RB! not sure of age and/or how long I had it - a couple of tiers below my favorites in this style aroma was soft - lots of different kinds of chocolate, some roast. palate was good; Taste like aroma but did have some vinous to it that just doesn’t work for me.

Bottle. Thanks huhzubendah! Pours an oily black with wispy lacing. Aroma is a revelation: chocolate, brown sugar, and roasted malts. Flavor is massive, and everything a baltic porter should be. Dark fruits, fig, black cherry, vanilla, chocolate malt, port complexity. Finish is dark fruit sweetness. Outstanding.

Been looking for this one for years. And here we are chilling in my basement getting it on (sorta). Beer is dark brown and looks like a porter. I feel the earth move under my feet, etc. Seriously nice aroma and flavor. Stop! ...in the name of love, this shit is delicious. Danish roasted malt, light chocolates, vanilla, hints if cherry, prominent dark fruits. Silky smooth and wonderfully intriguing. Lovely.

Bomber. 2-3 years old. Big chocolatey nose, some smoke and fumes, and sweet dark fruits. Pitch black, with a creamy dark tan head. Winey, light chocolate initial / mid goes deeper with the chocolate / some plums and umami in finish. Medium body. Very good. Might be a little old. Could be rated higher if it had a little more body

Bomber. About 2 years old. Sugary caramel and chocolate nose, raisins. Shiny black with a pretty brown lacy head. Wood, chocolate, soy flavors, coffee, well roasted and great balance. Nice fruity, tangy edge. Rather light in body. Very tasty.

500 ml bottle - pours eep brown with a fine dark beige head. Deep aroma of ristretto coffee. Medium body with nice bitter notes supporting the roasted malty flavours, dark chocolate. Very nice porter, balanvcing on the edge with a refined imperial stout!

500ml bottle from Kamiel (one of many special treats). Dark brown with a nice mocha head that bubbles up and then fades to a nice film across the glass. Smokey, chocolate, coffee grinds, roasted malts, hints of vanilla, bit of tannin. Moderate body and carbonation, a nicely balanced beer that hints at sweetness but has some underlying coffee bitterness and roasted malts that even things out, becomes slightly dry, easy to drink, smooth, one of the best regular porters I have had. Thanks K!
