COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: Has also been brewed at Bryggeriet S.C. Fuglsang and Nøgne Ø in Grimstad, Norway
Introduced at ’Fynske Øldage’ 2005.

English: A dark and rich porter inspired by the Baltic porters traditionally made in Scandinavia. Roasted without being burned or bitter, with the flavor dominated by dried fruits and vinous notes. High amounts of residual sugars and a fruity aroma makes this beer the perfect companion for chocolate desserts, if served lightly chilled. Brewed on Maris Otter ale malt, British Brown Malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, two types of caramel malt and brown sugar.

Deep black. Incredibly dark head, which looks great. Extreme hoppy aroma, but it’s balanced by very caramellike rich malt characteristics.Aromas of chocolate, roast and burnt fruits. Flavor is complex and with nice roasted malts.

Bottle from GBBF07. Dark brown/black colour with a decent head. Aroma has coffee & dark chocolate. Tastes as it smells with some liquorice notes in there as well. A very good Porter indeed.

From a can - but nice to buy canned beer of such quality! Poured into a pint glass it looks amazing - like the "ur"-porter, if there ever was one. So balanced that it’s almost too much. Everything is in its rigth place. Taste is not too sweet, but hold together by a vaguely hoppy dryness. Rough, but still drinkable, Perfect!

Ølfabrikken Porter pours up with a modest carbonation that creates a small tawnish-brown colored head that sits briefly atop the opaque deep dark brown-black body. The heavily roasted aroma is dominated by a big chocolate malt presence and some mild fruitiness (black cherry, mulberry, plum). Background notes of black malt, arabica beans, earthy hops, and woodsy licorice root aid the overall complexity. These interplay nicely as the beer warms in hand and allows for some intoxicating alcohol vapors to dance at the rim. Nice! All that roastiness is definitely carried over to the flavor that starts off rather bold, but eventually mellows to show espresso coffee overtones, toasted caramel, and smooth bitter chocolate undertones. The acidic, bittersweet finish is slightly smoky with a subtle warmth. This medium-full bodied Baltic Porter is a touch oily and finishes heavy. Enjoy with some traditional smoked mackeral, creamy chive havarti, and slices of buttered rye bread. Here’s to Christian Anderson and his pioneering Ølfabrikken brewery. CHEERS! Beertracker

This porter poured black with light brown head. The aroma was of chocolate and coffee. It had a nice smooth malt flavor. There was a hint of smokiness in the finish. This was one of the best porters I have ever drank. Highly recommend.

Pours black with a creamy brown head. Moderate carbonation. This is a strong, dark, and complex beer that has much in common with an imperial stout. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, and strong alcohol. Moderately sweet with roasted malt flavors, coffee, and milk chocolate. Strong alcohol flavor is pleasant and warming. Only mild bitterness. Consistent and perfectly balanced. Silky, full mouthfeel. Don’t serve overly chilled or miss out on much of the flavor.

Bedste Harboe øl ever! Det siger måske ikke meget, men der er virkelig noget over den her!

My new Favorite! Very, very dark with a strong chocolate smell. It tastes of coffee with an earthy taste. Almost like roasted coffee beans. I didn’t taste licorice like the bottle describes.

It pours black as sin with great aroma. It comes off the tounge with a a very nice roasted barley taste with a carmel the hits the back of the tounge. Very light hints of chocolate and vanilla also. Too bad that I cannot find this in Michigan and had to drive aprox. 100 miles into South Bend IN to buy it.
