4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: FEB 9, 2007 Pitch black with a beautiful, creamy, lasting, dark nougat head. The aroma has lots of roasted malts and the mouthfeel is oily. The flavour has nice notes of malt and bitter chocolate, dark fruit, licorice, brown sugar and a nice, long and bitter finish. It’s a really nice porter!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A: The pour is nearly black with an initially fluffy tan head which dies down to a nice layer on top of the beer.
S: The nose has some excellent roasted malt and coffee aromas which go along nicely with some molasses, dark chocolate, and perhaps even a touch of dark fruit.
T: The flavor offers up a nice contrast of mildly sweet and bitter chocolate along with coffee, roasted malt, and then some more roast for good measure.
M: The body is medium to full with a fairly low level of carbonation and a bitterness on the finish.
D: An excellent porter and very representative of its style. I’m glad to have tried this one and would definitely do so again.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at Bruce’s, London - big thanks to Paul. Pours thick, black-brown with a dense, beige cream head. Some milk chocolate in the nose, hints of burnt wood and hard alcohol out. Medium to big sweet flavor, good and rich bitter earth, dark cocoa, strong roast, bittersweet cocoa. Full bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Mellow warmth to finish, gritty chocolate, earth, bit of milk chocolate, light roast. Damn tasty.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: JUL 26, 2009 Swing top bottle. Opague, dark brown creamy head. Roasted malt and a hint of smoke and dark chocolate in the aroma. Malty, medium to full bodied, very powerful porter. Loads of roast, hints of beechwood and cacao. Dark roasted espresso. Heavy stuff, although you really can’t taste much alcohol. 8 4 7 4 16 = 3.9
Can @ RBESG Grand Tasting 2009. The Old Swing top bottle version is history, so this one will count for the rating. Almost black and opague. Roast and apple syrup in the aroma and flavor. Roastbitter finish with some aluminium. Still quite OK, but in no way comparable to the ’old’ Olfabrikken.
