COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: Has also been brewed at Bryggeriet S.C. Fuglsang and Nøgne Ø in Grimstad, Norway
Introduced at ’Fynske Øldage’ 2005.

English: A dark and rich porter inspired by the Baltic porters traditionally made in Scandinavia. Roasted without being burned or bitter, with the flavor dominated by dried fruits and vinous notes. High amounts of residual sugars and a fruity aroma makes this beer the perfect companion for chocolate desserts, if served lightly chilled. Brewed on Maris Otter ale malt, British Brown Malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, two types of caramel malt and brown sugar.

Bottle from River’s Bend. Pours black color with a large frothy brown head that was lasting with excellent lacing. Heavy toasted dark chocolate, coffee and woody malt aroma. Medium to full body with a thick smooth texture. Heavy roasted bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of long duration. This is a standout porter.

UPDATED: APR 12, 2008 Canned version 2008- Black with a beautiful and lasting pillow of light brown head. Roast malt dominates the aroma with some chocolate and the faintest hint of metal. Tasted next to a 2007, bottled porter, the flavour lacks quite a bit of the character it used to have. Thinner, more straightforward roast flavour, dry and without the fruitiness that used to make it such a perfect beer. Original rating, way back: Rich roast malt aroma, with some chocolate and a hint of coffee. Perfectly balanced flavour, dry with some (dark, dried) fruity sweetness and lots of bitter, roast notes. Full bodied and despite the intensity, very easy to drink. 9-5-9-4-19

UPDATED: AUG 22, 2010 supermarket can at $2. 33cl. Nice coffe aroma. Black, brown solid foam. Great taste, none of the disturbing nuances you usually find in a cheap port. aftertaste is dominated by roasy notes. Tastes great. Palate is nice too, full and smooth. This is real good, and outstanding for a canned beer at $2 retal. I wonder if it has been brewed by GB or ølbryggeriet. I’ll buy some more of these. (blind tasting 2010:8,4,7,3,15)

500 ml bottle an opaque brownish black with a small lingering brown head. Aromas of coffee, bitter chocolate, light licorice, light vanilla and a hint of dark fruit. Palate was medium to full bodied and smooth. Flavors of bitter chocolate, coffee, roastiness, light licorice and a faint hint of dark fruit with a smooth lingering roasty bitter finish.
A very tasty porter!

Deep dark porter with a thick dark moka head. A nice funky aroma of chocolate, cold coffee, and cast iron post. In mouth, a bitter herbal chocolate, very intense, with light peated notes, cold coffee. Rich and enticing. A superb porter. Bieropholie import BB Dec. 2006. Tasted with Probstk, May 26 2007.

UPDATED: JUL 26, 2009 Swing top bottle. Opague, dark brown creamy head. Roasted malt and a hint of smoke and dark chocolate in the aroma. Malty, medium to full bodied, very powerful porter. Loads of roast, hints of beechwood and cacao. Dark roasted espresso. Heavy stuff, although you really can’t taste much alcohol. 8 4 7 4 16 = 3.9 Can @ RBESG Grand Tasting 2009. The Old Swing top bottle version is history, so this one will count for the rating. Almost black and opague. Roast and apple syrup in the aroma and flavor. Roastbitter finish with some aluminium. Still quite OK, but in no way comparable to the ’old’ Olfabrikken.
