COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is our interpretation of the hoppiest of all beers, as it was served to the British troops in the eighteenth century. We have chosen to give this a Danish attitude with the addition of large amounts of malted rye. Together with excessive quantities of American hops this yields a complex and intensely bitter ale with a spicy bouquet and flavor. Enjoy it with spicy dishes, where the bitterness will complement the flavors. Ølfabrikken Rug IPA is, of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and bottle conditioned like all of our beers.

Bottle. Cloudy amber red color with a average to large frothy good lacing mostly lasting light brown head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, rye, moderate to heavy hoppy, citrus, fruit, flowers. Flavor is initial light sweet and moderate to heavy bitter, finish flavor is light sweet and moderate to heavy bitter but with a strange sour notes at the end. Duration is long. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

An unclear red-amber beer with a small light brown collapsing head. The aroma is slightly hoppy combined with notes of citrus. The flavor contains nice amounts of hops, combined with sweet notes of caramel and flowers. The end is a little too sweet for my liking and more dry than bitter. The rye gives it a good body, but the body is a little sticky.

50 cL bottle. Pours unclear brown with small head. Aroma is american aroma hops and has a distinct elderflovour/berry aroma. Taste is strongly dominated by hops with the taste of rye beneath. Citric tones as well. Aftertaste is very bitter. It all goes very well with spicy food and not so good on its own as the hops do get a bit cloying.

(On tap) Very dark amber colour, almost brown and completely opaque. Very fine, creamy, Guinness-like head. Nice flowery, hoppy aroma and the aroma hops also dominate the taste. But a crude and brutal bitterness spoils a lot of the fun for me making this hard to finish. 130505

Bottled. Extremely cloudy brownish orange colour with a small beige head. Aroma is strong flowery fruity. Sa,e in flavour along with yeast. The flavour was not that balanced though, and quite a disappointment compared to the aroma.

Draught at DBF 2005. Cloudy brown coloured with an off white head. Aroma of hops with notes of fruits and malts. Nice fruity flavour with lots of hops. Dry bitter finish.

Bottled at RBESG. Hazy amber. Rich grapefruity nose. Soldly malty, yet completely hop dominated. The cookie-like malt character doesn’t have a chance against the grapefruity and lychhee like hops, but least it provides a soft foundation for them. The bitterness is powerful and lingering. A very enjoyable beer, that in my opinion is one of the best Denmark has to offer.

On tap. Hazy golden colour with a white head. Lots of hops in the aroma. Hints of grapefruit and resin. Lots of hops in the flavor with hints of resin and rye. A heavy not very easy drinking beer. But has a nice bitter aftertaste.

Draught. Very nice hop aroma. Dry-hopped, I am sure. Dark brown colour, small creamy head. At first the flavour is a little bitter, then it turns really nicely hop aromatic. A hint of something nicely bready in aftertaste, perhaps the rye. Smooth creamy mouthfeel.

Dedollewaitor (12378) - Odense, DENMARK - FEB 14, 2006
UPDATED: DEC 29, 2006 Tasted on tap: A lot of Rye, again a lot of hop - a lot of bitterness, white head. The beer smells a lot of yeast. Really strong beer in each of its performances which also again is caused by its unpasteurized and unfiltered brewing process. Orange golden- white head.
