COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is our interpretation of the hoppiest of all beers, as it was served to the British troops in the eighteenth century. We have chosen to give this a Danish attitude with the addition of large amounts of malted rye. Together with excessive quantities of American hops this yields a complex and intensely bitter ale with a spicy bouquet and flavor. Enjoy it with spicy dishes, where the bitterness will complement the flavors. Ølfabrikken Rug IPA is, of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and bottle conditioned like all of our beers.

Hazy, amber. Rye brings a nice softness to the beer. Great hop performance - nicely rounded with good sweetness. (Tasted at the "BASMOF Nytårskur 07/08 12-01-2008)

Bottle. Off-white high creamy and long lasting head. Very hazy brown body. Presumably a lot of yeast still in the bottl. Lovely rye malt aroma. Powerfull rye hops flavor with nice strong bitterness.

Draught at Ølbaren. Hazy reddish brown coloured. Big wonderful aroma of wet pine forest and hop fields. Very hoppy flavour with notes of citrus fruits, ruccola salad and pine needles. Lingering dry and bitter finish. Very nice.

Draught. Hazy amber beer. I like the taste of rye when it is combines with the acidic bitter finish. This is a great experimental brew. Sweet and bitter a great beer.

pilsnerrogge (2271) - Finspång, SWEDEN - JUN 17, 2007
[bottle] Dark reddish amber with a large, thick head. Resinous, somewhat perfumy hop aroma. Really, really bitter with slight burnt touch, is it the rye? Long bitter finish. A bit perfumy, but still a great IPA.

UPDATED: AUG 19, 2005 Cask at Ølbaren, Copenhagen, RBESG. Murky brown colour. Distinctly malty aroma with citrussy hops, notes of balsamico vinegar. Flavour is definitely citrus with some rye bread, decent hoppy bitterness in the finish. Distinctly hoppy aftertaste. Also sampled bottle at RBESG 2005 Grand Tasting. Lovely aroma of hops, hints of rye bread and spices. (9/10) The flavour is dominated by a substantial hoppy bitterness from start to finish, but there’s also a tolerable malty base to balance it. (8/10) (Overall 15/20)

This could very easily be Denmarks best IPA at present. Very well balanced with a lovely full body and an impressive bitter finish. The rye isn’t really apparant in the flavour but perhaps it has improved the fine palate...

ToolHead (266) - København, DENMARK - MAY 14, 2005
Draught at Ølbaren. Served in Nørrebro Bryghus IPA glass. Hazy reddish color w/ OK, off-white head. Fresh, citrusy aroma w/ noticeable rye presence. The flavor is deliciously balanced between citrusy hops and solid malt backbone. Long, pleasant, bitter finish. Full, chewy mouthfeel and very good drinkability. I could drink this every day. Well done, Ølfabrikken!

Draught. Very nice hop aroma. Dry-hopped, I am sure. Dark brown colour, small creamy head. At first the flavour is a little bitter, then it turns really nicely hop aromatic. A hint of something nicely bready in aftertaste, perhaps the rye. Smooth creamy mouthfeel.
