RATINGS: 102   WEIGHTED AVG: 3.28/5   SEASONAL: Winter   EST. CALORIES: 255   ABV: 8.5%
Editor's note: Brewed by Ølfabrikken at Het Anker, Mechelen, Belgium.

This Christmas beer is our interpretation of the Belgian saison type. It is dark, spicy with a dry finish and powerful carbonation from refermentation in the bottle. The beer presents itself with a hefty nose of anise leading to a a slightly sweet beer with light body and a flavor dominated by notes of cocoa, caramel and rye bread leading to a long dry finish. Of course unfiltered, unpasteurized and refermented in the bottle.

(Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of Grovlam. Pours a cloudy, orangey brown with a beige head. Malty aroma of licorice and cough syrup. Medium body with a very lively carbonation and EXTREME accents of licorice - wauw, the most heavy licorice notes I have ever encountered in a beer - and a bit much really. The finish is quite bitter. 191207

Celebrating my 1200th rating. 75cl. bottle shared with pops. Pours dark brown with a fluffy lasting white head that drags some amazing lacings. Aroma is spicy, malty & fruity. The fruits are dark ones like raisin/plum. The malts are roasted and have a clearly taste of liquirice. Filling, smooth & creamy mouthfeel. Light warmth. It has a long and pleasant finish. Nice!

Bottled. Dark amber coloured. Unclear. Light brown head. Liqourice, sweetness, spice and light alcohol in the nose. Flavour reminds me of "Kongen af Danmark". Loads of sweetness and liqourice, caramel and some spices. Is medium bodied. Ends with sweetness and liqourice dominating.

Bottle. [Another great tasting session @ Papsoe] Large creamy beige head that mostly lasted. Excellent display of lacework. Cloudy light brown color. Heavy notes of liquorish from the star aniseed and light orange. The aroma was dominated of liquorish and spice. Over the palate again heavy liquorish, and hint of toasted malt that almost turns into medicine. Medium bodied with a lively carbonation. Moderated sweet flavor. Sweet liquorish finish. 6 / 4 / 7 / 3 / 14
